Browns will have $10 million accelerated cap hit after Richardson trade

September 19, 2013While center Andrew Bynum could very well miss the entire preaseason, first overall draft selection Anthony Bennett has been cleared for five-on-five basketball this week according to Yahoo! Sports’ Marc Spears.
Getting medically cleared puts Bennett right in line with the four-month timetable he was given after undergoing surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff in early May. Per Spears, Bennett has substantial conditioning ahead of him, but played well considering it was his first full-court activity since the spring.
The Cavaliers were panned by some for selecting a power forward given the presence of third-year forward, and fellow Canadian, Tristan Thompson. Thompson, however, could see considerable time at center in the event Bynum is not cleared, leading to plenty of playing time for Bennett in the frontcourt.
“As we did our evaluations throughout the entire year, we just kept coming back to his ability and his talent and how it fit with our guys,” Cavs general manager Chris Grant said earlier this summer. “A lot of times, like last year, it’s just clear cut. But for us, through the year, we always had him very high in our rankings and as we went back and reviewed the film and went on campus and visited everybody, we came away saying he’s a great kid. He’s willing to work and do the right things and he’s got a bunch of talent.”
