NFL News: Browns waive Tori Gurley to clear room for Josh Gordon

Wide receiver Tori Gurley was waived by the Cleveland Browns Tuesday evening to make room on the 53-man active roster for the soon-to-be-activated Josh Gordon.

Gurley, 25, made one catch in his two games with the Browns. He was added to the roster from the practice squad shortly before Week 1, in a somewhat surprising move that had Cleveland waive backup running back Dennis Johnson. A practice squad veteran and South Carolina product, the big Gurley saw his most significant action toward the end of the opening game against the Dolphins.

The Browns likely will hope to add Gurley back to the practice squad on Wednesday if he is not claimed by another NFL team. To make room for that likely move, the team also announced that it had waived practice squad receiver Arceto Clark, who had been added last Tuesday.

Thus, Gordon is expected to be added to the 53-man roster on Wednesday. He comes off a two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. The suspension was announced back in June, when it also was initially reported that the second-year receiver out of Baylor could face a one-year suspension with another positive test.

Cleveland’s receiving corps has struggled with Gordon’s playmaking presence thus far. Greg Little has struggled holding onto the ball and outside of emerging starter Jordan Cameron, there aren’t any other significant passing threats. Travis Benjamin and Davone Bess are best utilized in complementary roles. Having Gordon back on the field should be a big boost against the Vikings on Sunday — for whichever QB is throwing the passes.

This is nuts….Waive Little (dropsy, one of the seven dwarfs) and keep Gurley.

Yeah, at least Gurley can separate and catch.
