NFL News: Davone Bess will start over Greg Little for Browns

While some are still discussing the Brian Hoyer decision, the Browns have also made a decision to move Greg Little back on the wide receiver depth chart. Reports out of Berea today from Rob Chudzinski say that Davone Bess will start opposite the returning Josh Gordon, who sat out the first two games due to drug suspension. Chudzinski told the pool of reporters that the switch at wide receiver was a product of Davone Bess’ play. That intimates that it doesn’t have to do with Little’s continued trouble driving a car without necessitating legal intervention.

Of course, this benching of Greg Little doesn’t mean a whole lot. It is presumed that Greg Little will still find the field plenty when the Browns go to three or more receiver packages. Still, the symbolism is important too as Greg Little attempts – yet again – to overcome the reputation of a guy who drops passes and volleys interceptions to the opposing team’s DBs.

Greg Little was unavailable to the media in the locker room today.

    THANK YOU!

    Good call, Brownies.

  • MrCleaveland

As Craig pointed out, Little will still be on the field enough to rack up a few more drops, so it’s all good.

    Maybe Robiskie is still available?

  • The_Real_Shamrock

Cooper is still around so no need to get that desperate.

    LOL @ “volley’s interceptions”.

They are funny in Berea, Bess has what, 2 receptions on the season and they say this is a performance based decision? I’m fine with it by the way.

So the league has Gordon on the shortest of leashes and the Browns roll up the newspaper and hit Little on the snout for both on-field and more off-field reasons.

Great. It looks like next year’s off-season acquisitions must include a franchise QB and two starting-caliber receivers. And a starting-caliber corner. And maybe a starting-caliber free safety and who knows what else. The problem with grabbing “value picks” and hope they make immediate impact is the baggage they usually carry: knuckleheadedness, major injury rehab and the like.

Guy drops a bucketload of passes, gets off the plane from Baltimore, illegally gets behind the wheel fresh off a horrific accident, and rolls to the clubs downtown, running stop signs. Seeing guy get hit on the snout should make me happy. But it just depresses me.

In what past season would this comment not apply? Maybe ’07.

I like the Browns and did not look at the depth chart, but if I knew Little started over Bess I would not have been watching the past two games.

  • mgbode

they both started the past 2 games. Gordon is back from suspension, which bumps one of them to a WR3 role.

Don’t forget guard, tackle, and possibly center…. YES!

Lots of shake up going on. Hopefully this will focus the players in question. Little has pretty much turned into an Edwards, but last year he started to come around the second half of the season. I think a nice splash of cold water on his little parade may be the wake up call he needs to get back on track. If not, maybe we can work another trade with the Jets.

Hang onto your head but the Browns have reportedly traded Trent Richardson to Indianapolis for their 1st round pick next year and will sign Willis McGhee,

Moving him back on the WR depth chart, but UP on the RB depth chart? Let’s just make this season a total sh*t show.

  • mgbode

Little will be starting at RB. That’s why Bess is starting at WR.

Never give the ball to a guy with the nickname butterfingers!
