NFL News: Cleveland Browns’ inactives vs Baltimore
November 3, 2013The Cleveland Browns begin beautiful bye by beating Ravens 24-18
November 3, 2013Wide receiver Davone Bess has a brutal game against the Chiefs, including a pair of dropped passes and a fumbled punt. The first half was all about his redemption.
Bess scored two touchdowns for the first time in his career, and his first two as a member of the Cleveland Browns to help the Browns jump out to a 14-10 lead.
Even though Bess found the end zone, it was an amazing catch in traffic by Greg Little that got the Browns in position to score. Little leaped and caught the ball around a defender’s head in double coverage, landed on his feet and kept going on a 32 yard gain.
Coach Rob Chudzinski gambled on fourth and one and it paid off. Jason Campbell found Bess on a one yard pass at the goal-line with a blitz in his face to cap an eight play, 80 yard drive.
Baltimore was forced to kick a 51 yard field goal when Quentin Groves sacked Ravens QB Joe Flacco, cutting the Browns lead to 7-3.
A scary moment for the Browns when Jason Campbell was knocked from game on unnecessary roughness play. Campbell hurt his ribs on the play, but was able to return to the game on the next drive. Greg Little was called for unsportsmanlike conduct while Campbelll was on the bench, stalling the drive.
It was unfortunately not Little’s only mental gaffe of the day. In Baltimore territory, Little made a first down catch for 15 yards, but was called for taunting and lost 15 yards. It didn’t cost the Browns however, as Davone Bess caught his second touchdown catch of the day, making a nice move to break free for the end zone. The Browns took a 14-3 lead.
The Browns defense bailed out Willis McGahee by holding the Ravens after the Browns running back fumbled at midfield. The fumble did flip field position for the Browns, who were pinned deep in their own territory and forced to punt.
The Browns defense was very good against the rush, holding the Ravens to 24 yards on 10 carries. Joe Haden picked off a terrible floating duck pass from Joe Flacco late in the second quarter for his first pick of the season.
Flacco got his revenge for the interception finding Torrey Smith for a huge gain right before the half. Two plays later, Flacco found Marlon Brown for a touchdown, cutting the lead to 14-10 Browns.
Campbell was 13 of 18 passing for 142 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the half.
