You can now scratch off a fourth Cleveland Browns interviewed candidate from the wish list: Green Bay Packers QB coach Ben McAdoo will reportedly agreed to become the new offensive coordinator of the New York Giants.
FOX Sports’ Alex Marvez reports the news on Tuesday evening, per a source. Kevin Gilbridge, the Giants’ seven-year offensive coordinator, retired after the season.
McAdoo’s contract with the Packers ended after the season as well and it appeared to be a foregone conclusion that he’d receive his promotion elsewhere. He had been with the organization since 2006, including six previous years as the tight ends coach. This was his second season as Aaron Rodgers’ coach.
The 36-year-old interviewed with the Browns last week. He also had been making the rounds in interviewing for other offensive coordinator vacancies. That seemed to be a more natural step in his development than the large leap to head coach.
Earlier on Tuesday, Arizona defensive coordinator Todd Bowles took himself out of the Browns running. Previously, Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels did the same. Ken Whisenhunt, new Tennessee Titans head coach, was the other interviewed candidate who is no longer a part of the running.
As has been repeated before, the Browns appear to be mighty content with waiting it out for Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase. We likely won’t be hearing many more updates besides lost opportunities until the Broncos’ season finally ends.

Not many positions left if Gase accepts the HC position it will be interesting to see what coaches he hires. Well except the DC because if it is Schwartz it proves someone other then Gase still has power.

I’m pretty surprised that he didn’t end up in Miami w/ Philbin. It seemed the obvious destination when they sent Sherman packing. Either Philbin doesn’t think too highly of this guy or he wants to make a name for himself w/o the GB ties.

Did anyone else get Haslam’s email today to season ticket holders? Pretty blunt that they’re waiting to interview people from teams still in the playoffs.
If they’re so interested in Gase (or someone), that’s great, and I don’t mind them interviewing a bunch of others meanwhile, either. Perhaps Haslam has learned from rushing hires (Chud, PFJ COO [?]) in the past.
My only concern is that they interview Gase and one side or the other isn’t interested and the Browns aren’t in love with anyone they’ve met (or vice versa). Nothing to do about it, just saying…

Whether it’s the propagandist southern speaking owner, the bean counting assassin sitting next to him or the guy dressed in the Brownie the Elf costume behind the curtain emailing his reporter friends.
