January 16, 2014The Browns have lost another assistant coach as Jon Embree agreed to coach the tight ends for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He held the same position with the Browns in 2013.
Adam Schefter reported the move this afternoon.
Embree joins former defensive line coach Joe Cullen on staff in Tampa Bay. Earlier this week linebackers coach Brian Baker took the same position in Washington.
They aren’t the only members of Rob Chudzinski’s staff rumored to be going elsewhere. Norv Turner to Minnesota is all but a done deal, and he will be taking his son Scott with him to coach the quarterbacks.
Defensive coordinator Ray Horton is also rumored to be the top target of the Tennessee Titans to run their defense, according to Titans beat reporter Jim Wyatt.
When the Browns do hire a head coach, it will be interesting to see where his staff comes from, and specifically how many of those coaches are getting a ‘promotion’ to an area of responsibility they have never had before.

I’ve often wondered if the biggest issue of switching coaches is less about the scheme switches than the general little switches: Schedules, routines, workouts, stuff like that.
I would think that schemes are schemes – teams switch parts of the game plan and playbook that is being used every week, they’re always looking at film and planning, etc. But a major switch in routine can really impact how a person does stuff every day. Anyone know?

actually glad that Horton and Norv were able to find landing spots with other teams. I had assumed that Horton would go wherever Whisenhunt landed (and may have been a negative point on both sides for Ken’s interview here).
Good luck to them for all games except when they play the Browns.

Oh lets not conflate things it’s not personal we just happen to be on two very opposite ends of the spectrum therefore it’s only natural that you be wrong and I be right. And I’ll take your congratulations and hang it on my wall with the rest who have fallen before me!
I would have liked it better had Norv gone to Baltimore but oh well. Kind of funny Horton is back with Whisenhunt again but right now I like Tennessee’s prospects far more then that of Cleveland.
I just keep hoping I read somewhere Schwartz gets hired because the longer he stays out there the more I believe he will in fact be the next DC of the Cleveland Browns. And boy will that be even more fodder for the cannon that is being assembled to blast this front office and owner.

First they already suck it’s hard to envision sinking lower then they already are but I guess it’s possible; Second would that be considered a “consolation” prize?; Third it will only be a prize/win if more people in Cleveland realize what is being done to “their” team year in and year out; Fourth don’t even get me started on the prospects of Jimmy Haslam’s future as owner of this team and how bad it looks coming in the very first year of his ownership.

not really funny, it’s just how things go. if you work with someone, then you are more apt to trust them. if you trust somebody, then you try to bring them along with you.
i don’t know why you would prefer Norv in Baltimore unless you think he is a terrible coach.
Funny was the wrong word thanks as always for picking up on it. Ironic was probably better.
As for Norv it would have been better for him I think plus it would have added even more to the next time Cleveland faces Baltimore which will never get old.
