“In the short term, some things have changed. The Cavs have been very good on both sides of the ball over these five games, but they’ve especially soared on offense. The Cavs have scored 107.6 points per 100 possessions during the streak, a mark that would rank at the edge of the top five overall, per NBA.com. That’s heady stuff for what has been a stagnant, bottom-five offense most of the season. They’ve been stingy on D, too, thanks to a philosophical shift that has probably been difficult for Mike Brown given his usual preferences on that end.” [Lowe/Grantland]

“The big question everyone is wondering now is whether the Indians can sign Masterson to an extension before he hits the free agent market in November. Many stories will surface over the next several weeks and months about the progress of those talks, and many upon many opinion pieces will be written across the blogosphere about how, why and if the Indians can really resign the talented righty.
But barring some seismic shift in the way the Indians think, the history and facts make it all but a certainty that Masterson will enter free agency and probably will not be resigned by the Indians. As matter of fact as that sounds, the proof is in the pudding.” [Lastoria/FSO]

“Three owners, eight GMs, eight coaches. All since 1999. That part is well-documented, and for the most part, until recently, greatly ignored by an overly rabid fan base desperate for a winning culture. But there isn’t a winning culture to be had, at least not yet.
With every passing day, with every passing decision by owner Jimmy Haslam, the team moves closer to relevancy, perhaps even a winner’s mentality. The first step was making the transition to a streamlined front ofice with he being the final say in all operations. No more convoluted structure; no more passing the buck. This is Haslam’s team now, good or bad.” [Smell of the Grass]

“Mike Thomas’ career is at a cross-roads. The path to the NFL is littered with the corpses of careers filled with untapped potential. But I think Mike Thomas, who came to Columbus via Virginia via the glorious San Fernando Valley, has traveled too far to waste his talents. I think Thomas knows it too.
I could be wrong, but I don’t think I am. I think Mike Thomas’ selfishness and arrogance is just what the doctor ordered for the Ohio State receiving corps. Like his uncle Keshawn Johnson once famously decreed: just give him the damn ball.” [Byrnes/Eleven Warriors]

Obligatory, because you said “winning streak”

That Lowe article is (not surprisingly) spot on. This has been a fun last week or so, but perspective needs to be kept. The playoffs are a nice goal, and even if we ship out Deng, Andy, or Jack, that doesn’t mean we have to fire up the Tank. But I hope Griffin doesn’t make a move just to try to get Gilbert to let him keep the job after this season. As nice as the 7th seed would be this year, the 3rd seed would be even nicer next year.
Looks like they added Hawes personally I don’t think you’ll see a “big” move now and I think I’m okay with it. I can’t imagine many teams being willing to give up any real assets for Deng so it would make sense for the Cavaliers to play out the season with him. Varejao picked a bad time to remind everyone of his annual fondness for injury. Jack has a role especially with Waiters on the sidelines. I’m hoping for possibly one other secondary deal to firm up the team even more but if all they do is Hawes I can’t complain.

Good idea, questionable execution.
I did a quick check… the last time the Browns won six in a row, it included three OT wins. What ended it? The Drive.
Ugh.
