Setting the lines on the 2014 Indians
March 28, 2014Report: Indians sign Yan Gomes to long-term contract
March 29, 2014The Cleveland Browns will reportedly conduct a private workout with Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr on Monday. Northeast Ohio Media Group’s Mary Kay Cabot reports that Carr will merely be the first name on what is a “big list” of individuals slated to be the subject of individual scrutiny in Berea.
Bailing on pro days left and right, this will be the team’s first up-close look at a quarterback prospect heading into the 2014 NFL Draft. Browns head coach Mike Pettine reportedly called Carr the “best natural thrower” in this year’s draft class.
“(He’s) very physically gifted,” said Pettine. “A lot of times it’s hard to bet against the family history as well. You’re talking about like a Jake Matthews that it’s the old ‘don’t bet against the genetics.’ I think he certainly falls into that category as well.”
Carr, the brother of former No. 1 pick David, also has private workouts scheduled with the Vikings, Rams, Titans, and Raiders. The Browns own the Nos. 4 and 26 picks in the first round of May’s draft and continue to be linked to every essentially player who plays the position. Most analysts originally felt that Carr was more of a late-first rounder, an impressive workout at his pro day and increasing buzz could see him solidly land with a team higher up in the first round.
The 6-foot-3-inch Carr possesses a solid résumé and exceptional intangibles. The question marks surround his on-field production at the next level given below-average pocket presence as well as average arm strength. Also: His name isn’t Johnny Manziel.

Next Starting QB of the browns – assuming we don’t pick up a veteran who starts between Hoyer and Carr.
I liked his brother…but, the Texans ruined him by letting him get sacked 100 times every season.
best natural thrower is just saying that he’s gonna look great throwing in shorts and a T to open WRs with no pass rush.
people will try to claim his non-throwing shoulder injury against USC discounts his poor performance in that game (I disagree), but we can also just take a look at the only other halfway decent defense he faced last year below.
Now, I wouldn’t be completely upset if we took him at #35, but I don’t think he gets past the non-playoff teams because there are too many that need a QB and guys like Locker go in this range. Carr did audible some and he can look good at times, but with any pressure his feet go crazy and his passes go erratic.
I think he’ll be better than Derek Anderson, but not a capable long-term starting QB.

Another one of those QBs I’d be extremely nervous about if I were a Browns fan. Even at #26 just because of the horrible choice that was Weeden.
Houston did him no favors agreed but he was overrated IMO.
i really wanted to jump on the carr train this year but fresno was such a total dink-dunk fast paced offense that i didn’t see anything (from the play in that offense) that was readily nfl-translatable. he also had davante adams as nice go-to WR who held a size/speed mismatch against 90% of WAC cornerbacks.
in short: i pretty much got nothing here. 😉
…”he also had davante adams as nice go-to WR who held a size/speed mismatch against 90% of WAC cornerbacks.”
Like our very own Leon McFadden? :/
You’re not a Browns fan?
how do you know he was overrated? you better check with Steve and get some metrics on that before you write next time.
you’re kidding, right?
I think he’s a closet fan.
I think he was overrated out of college and I’m American, we don’t use metrics!
Steve wins! I purposely worded that the way I did but to answer your question: only when they win which isn’t often! LoL Patriots fan first Browns fan on occasion but it’s hard. I want them to be better but I stopped being a Browns fan the day the real Browns left town. I never liked the expansion deal from how it happened to who it was sold to ah well everything. 14 years later I feel no different despite the third owner. That doesn’t mean part of me doesn’t hope for the better I’m just over waiting and counting on it. That’s why these guys all HATE me so much on here. You didn’t think it was just because of my rugged good looks did you?
LoL hata!
Hey now!
I’m holding firm to my belief.
You can only hope to contain me you cannot stop me! Btw I’ve been meaning to ask you, who the heck is Chad?
not a big fan. With our division’s defenses a wee bit of ability to evade the initial pass rush and make a play is huge. He strikes me as way too immobile. If we’re just making quick, short throws not sure he’s a better bet than Hoyer.
My twin brother.
He’s no Johnny.
How that wasn’t comment of the day here is beyond me!

Hawkeye or Hunger Games?
i’m gonna change my name to The_mgbode_wannabe maybe then whoever decides will notice! 😉
How come you aren’t named Thad?
when is Tim Tebow going to get a private workout?
an ok qb that folds under pressure. no thanks.
