Morgan Makes Indians Opening Day Roster, Bourn to the DL
March 24, 2014OJ: The Musical and Cleveland sports with Jeff Rosenberg – WFNY Podcast – 2014-03-24
March 24, 2014One ginger leaves, another one takes his spot. After weeks of speculation and a visit to Berea, offensive lineman Paul McQuistan is the newest member of the Cleveland Browns. In turn, the team officially has a warm body to slot next to one side of Alex Mack in the event that they can’t address the gaping hole at guard through the NFL Draft or through the remainder of free agency.
McQuistan, who turns 31 next month, started 40 games the past three seasons. He’s capable of playing both guard and tackle but isn’t necessarily good at any spot. In their press release, the Browns made sure to mention that McQuistan played for the “Super Bowl XLVIII champion Seattle Seahawks,” where he started 14 games in 2013âmost of which were due to injuries ahead of him, none of which were in the postseason. As our own Rick pointed out last week, McQuistan, while serviceable, is hardly an upgrade over the shoddy guard play that plagued the Browns one season ago.
Let this serve as another reminder that ESPN Cleveland’s Tony Grossi has the Browns linked to Greg Robinson with the fourth-overall pick in the impending NFL Draft, the thoughts being that the bruiser out of Auburn could be a short-term fix at the guard spot. Who knew replacing Shaun Lauvao would prove to be so difficult?
Details surrounding the McQuistan deal are presently unknown. If history is any indication, the deal is for two years or has the bulk of the compensation being paid out over the first two years.

(Update: McQuistan’s deal is in fact for two years. No word on the compensation, though it can’t be much.)

An orange traffic cone is an upgrade over Cousins.
yes, we upgraded our backup OG spot. now, if we only had a starting OG on the roster.
oh, by the way, here is the O’Neil Cousins of traffic cones:

You mean Greg Robinson? Gregg Williams is kind of old and doughy
Still better than Cousins.
These guys making all kinds of mistakes today I guess that weekend off made them rusty.
I still like Matthews over Greg Robinson/Williams.
So we’ve had all these free agent signings but we still haven’t really improved the team very much.
So much for the hype about all our cap space and blah blah blah.
That and trying to actually get some work done.
Not pictured: A little red-headed boy throwing his ball into oncoming traffic.
You can never have enough underpants.
gotta watch out for those redheads
especially if you are QB when Cousins is playing OL.
Got better at LB, added a WR, lateral move at S, some depth at G, still have plenty of cash to wrap up key players.
You build a winner with the draft. In my mind, we’ve improved slightly at little to no extra cost (compared to what it would have taken to keep D’Qwell, T.J., etc.). I’m glad the front office didn’t do something stupid with all that cap space.
Get em Scott
Whitner makes more than Ward, and I am sick of hearing lateral move. TJ Ward is a much better S than Hitner. Its not even close to lateral.
Don’t forget about this guy, the Raiders still haven’t signed Tony!
Ward makes less in Denver cash…not Cleveland. TJ would have cost us far more than what he signed for in Denver. I believe that Ward will be the better player, but I agree that it is a lateral move at the moment….2-3 years down the road, not so much.
From what I’ve heard, Whitner is better in pass coverage, Ward is better in the run game. Personally, I’d rather have a coverage safety in the NFL nowadays.
But it’s a free country. If you think we’re worse, fine.
I would like to point out a subtle dynamic that is worthy of further study: The annual progression from anticipation of a star studded draft filled with skill position players to the resigned acceptance of the fact we have no linemen either and it would probably be wise to build from the foundation upward.
My whole point on the situation:
He’s older in NFL years, he played with possibly the best or second best front 7 in the NFL (I think that Defensive front could make any DB look good), and why didn’t San Fran offer him anything to come back?
Hm, I like where you are going with this…
my memory must be foggy. I thought St. Clair was turnstile and Pashos was…

oh, apologies, it’s coming back to me now. Kevin Shaffer was necktie. man, forgot all about him (almost).
Just posted on The Onion website:

wow, Pettine gets onioned before conducting his first OTA. Gives a whole new meaning to “storied franchise.”
Playing behind the best front seven doesn’t change the PFF rankings he received. And in those, he was a top 10 safety. Again, worse in run defense than TJ, but better against the pass.
As for no SF offer, I don’t think that necessarily reflects on a player. There are dozens of factors that go into whether a guy is a right fit. Also, we didn’t offer Ward anything and I don’t think that makes him a better or worse safety.
maybe, but look at the roster and count how many guys played for the Browns more than 2-3 years. Since ’99 there’s been Dawson, Thomas, DQ, and Pontibrand. Now Mack is itchy and Haden isn’t locked up. Hell, the Browns have trouble with stability at punter. Three years here is like 7 in Steeler seasons.
Depends on how you define work.
That’s right, St. Clair was turnstile. Pashos was the broken-down dude they kept injecting before games until the expose led to the shut down of those New Jersey racetracks.
You know that last night the Cavs won/Kanicks folded like a cheap umbrella in a must-win sitch for NY? And yet we’re pulled back again to our Storied Franchise, if only to discuss derogatory nicknames of the league’s worst offensive linemen …
Ginger? Don’t mean you cracker or honkey? Since when are white boys called gingers?
So the Cavs screwed up again, imagine that.
When they’re gingers.
perhaps ninjas never watched gilligan’s island?

What about ginger ninjas?

After read g that the Browns have a gaping hole at guard Lindsey Lohan reportedly contacted her agent to ask when she should report…
I’ll be here all week
Browns OL looks to be Thomas, Pinkston, Greco, McQuistan, Schwartz with Gilkey being one of the key backups. I wonder where Fragel fits in because he could be a fullback or used as the eligible receiver in the jumbo package. He did play TE at tOSU before moving to RT.
wheres Ross Verba?
any mention of Verba reminds me of the Lions article:

good old Ross Verba
mind blown.
Up tick for the Ross Verba mention. My second favorite Brown bust behind Junkin.
