NFL News: Manziel texts Browns mid-draft to “come and get him”
May 16, 2014Blue Jays 4, Indians 2: Happ-less against another lefty
May 16, 2014Ray Farmer isn’t playing around! I can be miserable and critical and awful with the Browns at times, but that’s only meaningful if I can be honest when I’m happy about something. I know for a fact that everything Ray Farmer is doing won’t work, but all you can guarantee is the effort and how you go about your business. Ray Farmer is going about his business well so far.
Ray Farmer is showing just how different he is than Joe Banner and Michael Lombardi. In the shadow of those two guys punting a draft, trading a high profile player and never replacing him, Ray Farmer is showing just how committed he is to the here and now. Yes, he grabbed Buffalo’s pick for next year, but he didn’t sit around talking about how valuable his future assets are. Farmer chose to work on maximizing current assets. Specifically, he went and signed two veteran receivers to go with his undrafted crop.
Josh Gordon might not be here? There’s no easy solution to an issue that big, but Farmer is doing what he can. He signed Earl Bennett and on a higher profile nabbed Miles Austin as well. Again, neither are Josh Gordon, but trust me when that has reverberations through the entire team. It tells the roster and the coaching staff that this front office is trying to win now and you best follow suit. No more rebuilding. It’s no guarantee of success, but I think it maximizes the potential of what you have now. Good on Ray Farmer and this current crop of Browns execs.

The best kind of promotion is self promotion! It’s kind of cheating to pump up the podcast in my WWW, but I had a pretty good week, I think. So, I’d like to push it anyway.
Over the weekend was the return of Scott Raab
I followed that up with a WFNY Joncast
I talked baseball and CLE music with Joe Petrich of Something Involving a Monkey
Lastly, I talked Cavs, Internet and Seth Rogen’s Neighbors movie with Brian Spaeth
Of course you should subscribe to the podcast on iTunes.

I told you I’d keep you updated on my progress with Game of Thrones. Since I last talked to you, we’ve conquered all of season two and are four episodes into season three. The show is flying by, but we’re really loving it this time around. The gratuitous sex either has become far less prevalent, or maybe I’m just numb to it and not noticing anymore. Honestly could be either.
Anyway, I’m sure you regular people who are up to date aren’t shocked by this anymore, but I’m amazed at the character development. The job that Emelia Clarke did in creating a simpler, younger female character at the beginning before letting her come into her own as Khaleesi is nothing short of awesome. Of all the characters, that was the greatest departure and actually created a character I liked form one that I didn’t.

The World Cup is coming soon, so I wanted to put you in the soccer mood with some free kick trickery.
That’s it for me this week. Have a great weekend everybody!

That was a neat trick.
Hey, as long as we’re talking TV, any “Revenge” fans out there? I thought the finale was pretty hokey and implausible.
The wife and I have watched it together. I wish they would have casted a prettier Victoria. She is hard to look at, yet a woman so many men “desire”. I don’t know how they are going to continue the plotline. I guess they will try to work David back in somehow
It looks like the writers have finally gone all Fonzie on water skis. Just Wait Until Next Season. We’ll learn that “it was all a dream” or something dumb like that.
I really liked the prison break show when it was on, but I knew they could only do so much with that. This show has been getting pretty stupid, but I will probably continue to watch. Jack is screwed
If that chick wakes up and is in the shower let me know I’ll tune in!
Go Ray Ray!!!
Not so much a Revenge fan, but what about Scandal? Anyone? Routinely implausible, but addictive nonetheless.
I have not got involved yet. Suits?
That one’s on the summer Netflix list–lots of positive recommendations.
Re: GOT (and I won’t spoil anything)…yes the sex does wane as the show goes on. I remember after season 1, I was trying to describe the show to a buddy, and I found myself saying there’s lots of sex, a wise cracking drunk dwarf who pretty much lives at brothels, and a fair share of incest. You need to watch it!
This just occurred to me the other day…
If and when Benjen ever reappears, it’s gonna be ON!
Remember him? 😉
I totally forgot about him. He just sort of disappeared from the Night’s Watch and then no mention. I haven’t read the books, but I suspect you’re right…he’ll resurface. Also they never really said much about him other than he’s Ned’s brother. Must be a back story there.

Season 4 is based mostly on the second half of Book 3, and as of Book 5, he still hasn’t resurfaced.

This is my wife’s favorite show right now. She just absolutely eats up every bit of it and is on the edge of her seat the entire time. I had been watching with her, but ended up missing a bunch of episodes and so now I typically spend that time messing around on my computer. From what I gather, David is going to come back as a (fake) minister as a “get out of jail free” card or something like that. Getting pretty crazy.
I tend to think Farmer is moving at a normal GM speed rather than with unusual alacrity. In retrospect, my take is that Banner smugly believed he finally held the keys to the franchise, could hire an invisible lackey as his GM, could take his sweet time punting on a draft and go slo-mo on signing key players to contract renewals. Which is kinda how Holmgren acted keeping Mangini a wasted year and then hiring Shurmur. And how Mangini acted hiring Kokinis.
Welcome to Normalville. I hope.
“Sexposition” is the combination of Sex scenes that feature Exposition in Game of Thrones. It is a lot easier to listen to characters talk about what is going on behind the scenes when there are naked people to look at.
What is this “normal” you speak of?
