With Johnny Manziel, Things Will Be Different. Right?
May 19, 2014What A Long, Strange Trip It’s Been: How the United States Men’s National Team Punched Their Ticket to Brazil
May 19, 2014Does the T stand for “tease?” Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine recently told Cleveland media that Pro Bowl wide receiver Josh Gordon will participate in organized team activities (OTAs) this week as the team awaits word from the NFL regarding the player’s looming suspension. Northeast Ohio Media Group’s Mary Kay Cabot reports that “the expectation” is for Gordon to be hauling in passes from both Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel as the league continues to deliberate on—well, who knows what.
Gordon was recently the subject of a report from ESPN’s Outside the Lines which said the receiver tested positive for marijuana. It is believed that Gordon is in Stage 3 of the NFL’s drug policy and another test could very well make him unavailable for all of 2014. Gordon’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus is in the process of appealing the suspension. If Gordon is suspended indefinitely, he would have to apply for re-instatement with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. The NFL’s leading recevier in 2013, Gordon was suspended for two games for what was reported to be codeine.
In the wake of the report, the Browns have added veteran wide receviers Miles Austin and Earl Bennett in addition to several undrafted free agents.
“We have to build this team so that no one player drives the ship,” Pettine said. “That we can be insulated losing players for extended periods of time potentially is part of the game. Successful franchises are the ones that have enough depth built and enough options to account for it.”

Good luck Josh. If at any point in the appeal process you’re feeling tense or nervous, or if you are feeling a sudden bout of glaucoma coming on, I say do what feels right.
I am hopeful that the suspension is not a full year. I feel like the lack of info that’s out there combined with the NFL taking a look at it’s recreational drug policy may indicate that the FO thinks there could be a chance too.
Wait. I’m completely confused. Has the NFL actually issued a suspension? And if not, what exactly is Gordon appealing? Is he appealing the report that he’s been suspended? This post is devoid of any thing resembling a “fact” (except the fact that MKC is a horrible reporter).
It was Greg Little #18 not Josh Gordon #12!!!
MKC ascribes to the belief that you never let FACTS get in the way of a good story. I miss Tony Grossi!
Maybe it’ll take the NFL a few games to decide lol that way the full year isn’t really a year! Hey, I can dream.
I’ve been somewhat out of the loop since last Sunday (a newborn will do that to ya) so I’m confused as well. When the announcement broke, I remember there being a lot of “potential” and “pending” thrown around, leading me to believe there was actually a chance (cue the Lloyd Christmas gifs…please?) that maybe somehow he wouldn’t be suspended.
Granted, I’m far too lazy to actually click on links or listen to press conferences. Maybe the facts are hidden in the links. But I’ll never know.
And here you go:

Seriously. We don’t even know what we’re working off of here.
I heard that contractually, the Browns management can’t speak about a suspension (or alleged suspension), so instead we get more vagueness from them, ala generic team sound bites: “We have to build this team so that no one player drives the ship.”
And then the league is no help. We have no idea which “phase” Gordon’s in (it’s assumed 3) or how many violations he has due to privacy concerns.
Ok, so I suppose Drew Rosenhaus isn’t going to be forthcoming is he? Although you’d think the player/agent would want to control the PR by issuing some sort of statement.
Thank ya kindly, good sir! Now I need to decide whether or not to introduce her to Cleveland sports…
Seriously, instead of cutting him, we should have introduced him to Jason Grimsley.
Yes. Sorry for failling to add that to my prior reply. Congratulations. And unfortunately, you are contractually bound to at least introduce her to Cleveland sports.

No worries, and thank you again. I wasn’t sure if doing so would remove me from FotY consideration.
I think Rosenhaus is trying to avoid the “methinks thou protesteth too much” stance that would imply guilt.
I’ve thought about that with my son, but I just don’t know how much I’m going to be able to shield him. I love my crappy sports teams and I watch them whenever I can. There’s no way to protect him from the misery.
I don’t know how old your son is, but I figure I have a few years to hope and pray for sports mediocrity before she starts taking them in…and from the looks of it, I’m going to need all the time I can get.
Sadly, you were removed from that consideration when you became a Cleveland fan. They don’t tell you that in elementary school, but they should.
No Cleveland sports and no boys until year #18 the earliest!
Josh Gordon won’t be suspended for a full year, the NFL sent him around to all the national sports media to do interviews during the offseason knowing he had failed his test. Goodell would never have allowed it if he intended to suspend him the full-season. Say what you want about him, but the man runs a super-tight PR operation.
For as long as the Browns employed Little the least he could have done was taken the bullet for Gordon.
Ha, at least she most likely wouldn’t miss out on Cleveland’s first title!
He’s 2, so we’ve got some time… not a lot though.
I suspect Josh tested very low on the positive scale (which is why the league wants to raise the threshold) and will argue that it was secondhand marijuana exposure from being somewhere in a state that it is legal. One year ban handed down but argued down to a four game suspension.
Congrats! I’m assuming you named her Manzielina? Or was it Jenny Football Neids?
Thanks! But I learned the hard way about naming after current athletes when I named my dog Braylon 7 years ago.
Swammy…. slippy…. slappy…..swanson…..swenson…..SUSPENSION!
I was way off.
Just tell everyone his name is “Bray-lin’.” (I assume he brays from time to time?)
This. I suspect we’re looking at the test case for a player that consumed in a “legal” state. Of course, if true, we’re also still looking at a very stupid young man.
i have been saying this since i heard about it. WHAT SUSPENSION? WHAT IS THE SUSPENSION FOR AND HOW LONG IS IT?? IS THERE EVEN A SUSPENSION??
I am so lost on all of this that it makes me wonder what it’s actually all about. Maybe it’s something entirely different that what we are hearing.

sh*t, I’ve been cut already?
sh*t, I’ve been cut already?
Congrats! newborns are the best excuses to stay home and watch football. too bad it’s not football season.

long live Rosenhaus! that’s a great explanation, and your prior point about Goodell and the interviews is spot on. really. I am sensing a 6-gamer here. Just in time to come back when Hoyer gets hurt and Manziel takes over…
we’ve known for quite some time that we were looking at a very stupid young man.
Well, that was my caveat of “if true.” If not true, then hopefully we are looking at a maturing young man, gaining in wisdom. Not holding my breath, of course .
4 games last year; 6 games this year. 8 games next year?
Maybe the guy has figured out a *mellow* way to extend his career? I mean, he still led the league last year . . .
did Davonne Bess hack your account?
did someone say Mary Kay?

good old Tony “a grudge counts as a source” Grossi
that is a great suit for a week1 game
congrats but remember that you are teaching her how to deal with frustration and failure from an early age so that it will be useful later in life. or, she’ll grow up bitter. fine line.
can’t play fetch or go quail/duck hunting because he cannot catch anything. a shame.
or peed in a cup for him
it wasn’t a big enough challenge. so, he wants to see if he can lead the league playing 12 games this time around.
You can have Mary Kay Cupcake I’ll stick with Tony. But it’s okay they did Grossi a favor.
Exactly.
