FitzGerald’s proposed “Win Tax” can’t create real accountability
June 5, 2014MLB Draft: Indians select Bradley Zimmer with No. 21 pick
June 5, 2014The Cleveland Browns announced the signing of their third round pick Christian Kirksey. The contract is reportedly a four-year deal worth $3.04 million, according to Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post. The 6-foot-2-inch Iowa alum is figured to be in the running for one of the starting inside linebacker jobs.
Kirksey is the second draft choice to sign his contract with the Browns. Pierre Desir of Lindenwood was the first player to sign his rookie contract with the Browns. The 6-foot-1-inch cornerback signed his four-year contract last week. The team has still not signed four of their draft choices including the first rounders, Johnny Manziel and Justin Gilbert.

Captain Kirk?…not really a star trek fan though
that works if he ever gets the “C” on his jersey, but I’d be surprised.
Maybe not, but I have a good feeling about this kid.
I sincerely hope that you are correct on him and I am wrong.
Don’t think I’ve heard your take on him bode. What have you seen on film?
He’s a Shazier-lite in almost every respect. I don’t hate him or anything and see the reasons the Browns drafted him. I’m just afraid that he’s going to end up being not quite passable as a starter and be a ST-ace and depth LBer.
Positives:
Does have speed, good instincts in the passing game (Iowa played a lot of zone and he was good enough to jump a bunch of routes). Always looking to turn and go on any turnover. Aggressive in the run game. Energetic and by all accounts uses that energy to lead the team.
Negatives:
He can get eaten up by blocks, over-pursues, and can miss tackles (big tendency to reach with his arms that won’t work in NFL). He also is not on the same level as Shazier in athleticism and it shows up. He’s pretty small and while he’s fast, he doesn’t look blazing fast on film. Didn’t cover to many guys man-to-man as Iowa played zone (so, it’s an unknown).
Good analysis. With the release of Groves we can use an energy guy in the LB core. Hoping they can coach him up, but the tendency to get eaten up by blocks concerns me – feels like this has been a chronic problem for our LBs in the expansion era (still have tremors when I think about Jamal Lewis running through Andra Davis, Ben Taylor, Kevin Bentley, etc). [shudder]
