June 13, 2014The Cavaliers are one of four franchises showing interest in European forward Damjan Rudez according to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports. Rudez, a Croatian, playing in the Spanish ACB has made his way onto NBA radars this summer after a hot shooting season in Europe.
The 27 year old shot 47 percent from downtown through the ACB season, and 52 percent (28-for-54) over 16-games in the Euro Cup. Rudez went undrafted back in 2008 which leaves him free to sign with the NBA team of his choosing this summer. Cleveland, Indiana, Utah, and Toronto are all said to be taking looks at the long range bombing big man.
Rudez’s height is reported to be anywhere from 6 feet 8 inches to 6 feet 10 inches, making him a “stretch four”, a position highly coveted in today’s NBA. More and more teams are finding the value in a big man that can step out to the three point line, space the floor, and pop off the pick and roll — areas the Cavs are in desperate need of improving.
In addition to his club basketball, Rudez represnted Croatia in the 2008 Beijing Olympics as well as in EuroBasket 2011 and EuroBasket 2013.
Check out Rudez hit this game winner from the Chris Bosh spot on the floor back in a Euroleague game from January.

Obviously you don’t factor in Damjan Rudez when hiring a coach, but one would think hiring David Blatt would put Cleveland high on Damjan’s list, with the Euro connection and all.
No thanks. From that clip alone you can see the adjustments he’d need for the NBA. He hits the winner and blows kisses, seeks group huggies and head rubs? Won’t fly at this level and he’s 27 already, with bad habits ingrained.
You’re a miserable human being.
Coincidence or evidence of the impending Euro invasion?

Well, that escalated quickly.
we’ve been linked to quite a few Euro free agents the past few years. still waiting to land one.

Guys, we should probably trade up to make sure we get him…
I hope you’re being sarcastic. He’s a free agent, not a draft prospect.
Many of the articles I’ve seen refer to Rudez as a likely “stretch 4” because of his height. They seem to ignore the fact that his listed weight is 201 pounds, which is light even for a small forward, and he averaged less than 2 rebounds a game last year.
I am.
I hoped that my “trade up” from #1 (for a free agent, like you mentioned) would be a good enough hint to the sarcasm, but alas, it was not.
Sorry, it was a valiant effort. There are so many clueless people commenting these days that it is hard to tell when someone is joking and when they are serious. I recently argued with someone who said in all seriousness that Allen Iverson could still average 20.
Wow. Like, 39-year-old Allen Iverson? Last played professionally 4 seasons ago for Besiktas J.K. (Istanbul, Turkey) Allen Iverson?
Well, when you share message boards with people like that, I can’t blame you for assuming the worst in people.
Yeah. I tried to point out that Iverson was asked to be a bench player in Detroit, Memphis, and Philly his last three years and refused every time, but the guy just told me that the whole thing was a conspiracy by the NBA to “blackball” him. I think it might have been AI himself.
