Hoax lawsuit against Manziel thrown out of Florida court
June 4, 2014Salazar to DL with triceps strain
June 4, 2014As the Kevin Love rumors continue to swirl, some new big men have entered the fold. ESPN’s Chad Ford reports that, while the Cavaliers continue to hide their intentions regarding the No. 1 pick, a slew of high-level veterans could make their way to Cleveland if the team were to move the highly-coveted pick.
We’ve already gone over the cases for Parker and Wiggins and won’t do so here. Parker is the obvious choice if the team wants immediate impact, and he would definitely fit a need if the team is convinced Luol Deng won’t be returning. Wiggins is a compromise: He’s talented enough, especially on the defensive end, to make an immediate impact, but he still has as much upside as anyone in the draft.
I think the Cavs’ preferred route would be a trade that thins out their roster and adds a young veteran who can immediately lift the team’s long-term chances. The Minnesota Timberwolves’ Kevin Love has been the most mentioned pickup. But the Cavs also have their eye on other bigs, including the Chicago Bulls’ Joakim Noah, the Portland Trail Blazers’ LaMarcus Aldridge and the Atlanta Hawks’ Al Horford.
Earlier on Wednesday, the All-NBA teams were released with Noah and Aldridge being on the first and third teams, respectively. Aldridge was rumored to be a potential trade piece last offseason only to put up the best season of his career. Adding Noah to a front court with Anderson Varejao could conceivably lead to the most defensively annoying tandem in the history of the NBA. Of course, it was also Noah who infamously panned Cleveland for not being a vacation destination. Then again, he later defended Anthony Bennett against any naysayers.
Ford’s latest mock draft has the Cavaliers selecting Kansas swingman Andrew Wiggins, but this is likely a result of the scribe being one of the few to not have center Joel Embiid at the top of his big board. Interestingly, the Cavs, at least per these rumors, appear dead set on acquiring a big man. At the end of the day, no one knows what Cleveland is going to do—perhaps even including those in Independence.

Trading the #1 overall for any of these guys would be absolutely idiotic. Why trade 5 years of cheap club control of a potential superstar for 1 year of Aldridge or 2 of Noah/Horford? I’d give up the rest of the team, except Kyrie. None of those guys are worth the #1 pick, and if you wouldn’t give it up for a rental of Love, why give it up for these guys?
Noah…in Cleveland.
Wouldn’t that be rich. lol
NO CHANCE the Cavs land any of those high profile free agent names that they want, absolutely no chance! I’m in no way indicting WFNY here, but rather the general media, but OF COURSE the Cavs are interested in Love, Aldridge, Noah, etc…..everyone is! Hate how this gets “reported” by the media that the Cavs want some of the better players in the league. Not happening.
Talk about a short sighted move!! Trading the #1 overall pick for a veteran in his late 20’s or early 30’s just to make the 7th or 8th seed. That would be pure Gilbert, along with a proclamation that “we are now a championship contender!”
The obvious pick is Embiid.
superstar win championships, veterans win championships. Out of all the teams who have won in the last 15 years Laker,Pistons, spurs, celtics and heats they all had one thing in common.A star vet, A young 20 somthing player ready to make the next step a bunch of 30 somthing “old men” to lay down the hammer. If the cavs are serious about winning it all drafting another player with the one pick is crazy if you can get a vet who on day one can be the man in clevland and show kyle how to be that tag team guy. But gilbert will of course pick embid and they’ll make it to the playoffs in the 8th and the won’t be able to attract any free agents and clevland will be right back were they started from.
Who does LeBron want?
Chicago is very cap/money conscious…… if they want a serious chance at a Carmelo type free agent, might be worth seeing if there are any good trades available if we agree to take Boozer off their hands with our cap space (you know, when Lebron turns us down). Even if he’s amnestied, they still have to pay him his salary. As it stands they have $64 million committed next year, right at or right under the projected cap, so they can’t really sign a good free agent outright – either need to make space first or sign and trade (but with Knicks also over the cap, sign and trade Melo is out). Noah might be a pipe dream, but maybe Taj Gibson, Jimmy Butler, or Nikola Mrotic (legit stretch 4)?
EVERYTIME.

Embiid
I don’t see Love or Melo going to CLE. If CLE trades the first overall pick, then a player like LaMarcus Aldridge is about the best possible option, depending on his interest to sign an extension in CLE. Noah has made a lot of comments historically about CLE, and I don’t think CHI would even consider trading him. Al Hortford is a maybe, but I don’t know that his skills will translate to success in CLE. He is mostly an offensive center and there are too many players already in CLE that need the ball in their hands, so his production is likely to go down offensively. Noah and Aldridge contribute heavily on defensive numbers and that alone would be a big help to CLE. Aldridge being the only player plausible. If not, then they are better off drafting Wiggins or Embiid with the pick and both are likely to have some defensive skills to bring to town. I don’t think Parker’s offensive skill is helpful in CLE and he the system in CLE is not going to teach him defense quickly.
