Anthony Bennett pulled from pro-am tournament in Toronto?
July 29, 2014Sizing up Santana and Uniform Notes …While We’re Waiting
July 30, 2014LeBron James will reportedly return to Miami for a nationally televised game on Christmas Day.
The Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson reported the rumor late on Tuesday evening, citing a personal familiar with the situation. The schedule is expected to be released in the next week or two.
The Cavaliers-Heat game is set to take place “barring an unexpected change of heart by the NBA.” The game, much-desired by ABC, would likely take place at 2:30 or 5 p.m.
We’ve seen murmurs already of the Cavs reportedly playing the San Antonio Spurs on Opening Night. Certainly, the Cavaliers will receive dozens of national TV games this year — probably as many in one season as they’ve had in the previous four since LeBron’s departure.
Are you as a Cavs fan upset by the road game on Christmas Day? LeBron returning to Miami obviously is a bit more of a storyline than Cavs-Heat in Cleveland. There will be plenty other of hyped games at The Q this season, anyway.

Upset by a road game on Christmas Day in which season ticket holders can stay home with the family to celebrate Christmas? Hmmm…Depends on the family i guess
Maybe I’m just lucky, but I can’t imagine watching TV on Christmas. It’s a day for talk and laughter with a house full of people and a big dinner.
Still surprised this isn’t opening the season.
I agree, though I do usually have the NBA games on in the background and muted much like NFL games on Thanksgiving.
real poke in the eye for lebron if true. given everything in the letter was about home and family;;; and then the nba decides to take a big crap on all that wholesome goodness by putting him on the road in his first xmas back at home with family? and trolls miami at the same time??
too gross.
i doubt this miami-written story. will wait.
you are lucky.
TV execs want ratings AND to spend their Christmas vacation in Miami. (ie. have their cake and eat it too. 😉 )
This makes much more sense then the defending champion Spurs starting their season in Cleveland instead of at home getting their rings.
I love the NBA games on Christmas day. By the time those games start, my family has already done breakfast, presents, Christmas albums, tons more food, etc and we’re usually looking to decompress by that point. All the better when it’s a Cavs game that can be watched.
I think it’s absolutely true… makes way too much sense. NBA puts as many huge games on Christmas Day as possible, and this is the biggest regular season game of the season.
It makes a ton of sense for the NBA. And, LeBron, in his letter, said that Miami will always be his 2nd home and the Heat players will always be family. So, they are just taking LeBron at his word 😉
Spurs starting on the road against LeBron makes that a marquee matchup. Then, the NBA gets another one for the Spur’s home opener & ring ceremony. Smart marketing folks in NBA offices.
Miami should start their season in Cleveland not San Antonio.
Usually the headliner is a rematch of last year’s Finals. Though Miami without Lebron is not quite the same draw. I wonder who San Antonio will get.
I won’t mind if Miami ends their season in Cleveland!
I think a Western Conference Finals rematch of SA/OKC would be a great game for Christmas Day.
make that the 5pm game and the visiting team can spend Christmas morning with their family before the flight.
When does the schedule even come out?
I believe in September
