Cavs “firmly in lead” to acquire Kevin Love
July 22, 2014The mind of LeBron and lovable Lindor: While We’re Waiting…
July 23, 2014Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting Monday night that the Cavaliers have agreed to trade Carrick Felix, plus other assets to the Utah Jazz for three players with non-guaranteed contracts.
Utah's trading John Lucas, Malcolm Thomas and Erik Murphy to Cleveland for Carrick Felix, future 2nd and $1M, sources tell Yahoo.

In Murphy, Lucas and Thomas, Cavs get three non-guaranteed contracts to facilitate trades — or a trade. Another step toward Kevin Love.

Minnesota's been determined to unload Kevin Martin and JJ Barea in a Love deal — no easy task for Cavs to make work without a third team.

As much as anything, three non-guaranteed contracts give Cavs what one source calls, "Buying power," whether used on Love or elsewhere.

This trade would seem to indicate that a move for Kevin Love would be closer to completion. Stay tuned folks.

Kevin Martin is an Ohio boy. Won’t mind bringing him home despite the contract
so cavs have a 3m Gee trade exception, ~3m unguaranteed contracts, Haywood as filler now?
Hmmm, Mr. Griffin, what are you up to?
Now I’ll .. I’ll never see Andrew (sob) Wiggins play with LeBron. Not even in the first quarter of an exhibition game.

basketball wise- he’s like Waiters with more experience, and may play better with Kyrie+LeBron

Summer of 2016?
NM, forgot he was a Canuck
he’s a silky smooth shooter who is really tall & really skinny but will mix it up on defense and has a career WS/48 of .146 (though he tapered off last year and hit 30yo).
not sure you can get a more different player than Waiters and both be SGs.
you just RGB’d RGB?

On the money. I’ve heard some talk that Martin’s deal is an albatross, and he’s just about done, but he was still useful last year, and a much better player (and fit for what this team will do) than Waiters.
yeah, if we are using present Cavs as comparisons, then he’s a younger Mike Miller who is a better overall player than Mike Miller ever was (though not quite the shooter).
any team can use that (though we’d be paying into luxury tax and that makes his contract even bigger, but it’s not my money).
watching too much ESPN these days? he could be in the discussions. Or, it could be Dion & Bennett. We’ll see what happens.
if we do end up trading Wiggins and keeping Dion, then does Dion become our backup PG?
Fedor would kidnap Wiggins, and drive him to Minneapolis, right now, if he could.
That dude is such a dbag.
Are there trade restrictions on as to how soon these newest guys must remain on the roster prior to being traded (again)?
waaait, now hold on just a sec. I distinctly remember that we already traded Felix Carrick like 2 weeks ago. This can’t be permissible under the CBA.
Tread carefully, brash David Griffin, the league will soon be on to your salary cap machinations. Just because the player’s name is a firsty-lasty doesn’t mean some stat head living in Mom’s basement won’t figure it out eventually. And then no one with such a name will ever wanna play here again.
No, you’re thinking of Scottie Carrick. Or was it Felix Hopson?
So by my count, the Cavs have a $3,25M exception for Gee, $4.18M in salary for Delly/Murphy/Thomas/Lucas3 and about $1M in salary for Powell/Harris. That’s about $8.43M in salary filler they can send out, without giving up any real talent. Plus 3 first round picks next year. And Haywood’s odd $10.5M contract next year. Add in some talent Bennet $5.5M, TT $5.4M, Dion $4M and they are really building some crazy flexibility to build around Kyrie/Wigs/Lebron/Andy/Miller/Jones.
Can this offseason actually get any better?
Last time we made a trade for flexibility, it was to bring in a superstar, and it appears we are doing the same thing again. I hope this is to sweeten a deal that does not include Wiggins. My guess is our offer of Waiters/Bennet + picks is not enough unless we also find a way to take back a couple awful contracts. On the other hand, if the trade does include Wiggins, and we’re also taking back bad contracts, then we’ve lost our minds.
Dion would be an excellent run-the-second-unit guy. That could be an exciting 15 minutes of basketball. That bench could score quite a few, but also give up just as many pretty easily.
If it guaranteed Love was here, I’d Celtic Pride it in a second.
Everybody loves Anderson Varejoa including me. However, him commanding a salary of close to $10 Mil is simply too much for a guy who plays so few games, even if he’s Bron Bron’s buddy. I’m glad Lebron’s home, but is getting his old Heat buddies really going to translate into wins? No. GM David Griffin & Dan Gilbert need to steady and redirect this ship before it falls. If we would had drafted Jabari Parker and resigned Spencer Hawes – man! The only thing that will help the Kevin Love situation now – is Kevin Love. And Wiggins, Bennett and a #1, lets leave it at that. We need BIGS to protect the pain and Haywood and Powell aren’t IT!!!

Varejao can be retained right now to keep LBJ happy but being on the final year of his deal makes him nice trade bait later in the season if needed like say at the trade deadline. There will be plenty of teams who would like to use him to clear almost $10M off their cap.
