July 23, 2014Browns rookies report to camp today, Justin Gilbert still unsigned
July 23, 2014The Indians have made a roster move in response to the injury concerns of Asdrubal Cabrera. The Tribe recalled infielder Jose Ramirez to Cleveland and sent T.J. House back down to AAA Columbus. Ramirez is batting .302 with 19 stolen bases, 29 RBIs, and 37 runs scored in 60 games with Columbus. In his limited time in Cleveland, he is batting .080 with two hits and one RBI in 11 games. He can play multiple positions including shortstop, second base, third base, and outfield. Ramirez is starting at shortstop for today’s game against the Twins and is batting second in the lineup. T.J. House is 1-2 with a 4.50 ERA in 10 games with the Indians, including nine starts. There is still no word on the extent of Cabrera’s injury and whether he will need to be placed on the DL.

I know sample sizes and the lineup doesn’t matter as much as it is made out to matter, but that just seems crazy.
I see it as giving the ‘fresh legs’ a chance to be on the basepaths more and letting someone whos been taking on more of the mlb workload take a ‘easier day’ by batting down the order.
But yeah, its eye catching.
crazy like a fox, you mean. He has a double and a RBI.
I think in fairness to Ramirez it should also have been pointed out that in 15 games with the Indians last year he posted a slashline of .333/.429/.400/.929. The 25 AB’s he had in the majors this year are his worst slump of the season by the looks of things. Also, in those 25 AB’s earlier this year his BAbip was a mind-bogglingly unlucky .091.

overall it still gives him an OPS+ of 20 (and all in a really, really tiny sample). and, he looked completely lost earlier this year.
but hey, it was the right decision for today as he smashes a double (as Harv mentioned) and kudos for him hopefully stating his case for more time
2/3 on a day when noone else on the team could hit.
True, I just meant in the larger picture he still looks like a guy with a plus bat. Last year in Akron was actually his worst offensive year, and he still came up and did well in Cleveland. This year he’s hitting very well against AAA pitching. I think the .080 over 25 AB’s earlier this year looks like the outlier.
Edit: looks like he raised his average by 63 points today, lol.
I hope he ends up being a speed guy with a plus bat for us. We can always use that type of player.
