Conflicting reports surrounding Wiggins, Love
July 18, 2014What’s it like to play for new Cavs’ coach David Blatt?
July 18, 2014LeBron James took to Instagram to ask his fans what number he should wear in his return to Cleveland.
James famously retired the No. 23 after the 2009-10 season, stating that it should be retired across the NBA in honor of Michael Jordan. He then, in his move to Miami, chose No. 6. (Bill Russell, interestingly, wore No. 6 while amassing his 11 championship rings.)
There are a slew of photoshops out there with James in a Cavs jersey with the No. 6, but many fans think that should be left in South Beach. What say you?

I really liked the 32 idea personally, but, if not, he should stick with 6, both to not be a hypocrite and as a reminder of where we’ve been.
64. The year of the last championship for the city.
Switch to 29… add the two together.
LBJ23! So nostalgic.
23. Why?
Not 1
Not 2
Not 3
Not 4
Not 5
Not 6 . . .
Honestly, I don’t care which number he wears. But if fans choose 23, it’s like the purest form of forgiveness, I think. We’re reuniting the past with the present, reclaiming him as “one of our own”. Not that we’ll FORGET, but it’s an olive branch. I for one, will never see him as the superman savior like I did before, but he can have 23 again- it’s not going to bring up bad memories for me.
He can also stick with 6, for the reasons he changed the number in the first place (MJ respect) and I’d be fine with it too. His biggest and most important decision was already made.
If he truly leaves this up to the fans, that’s pretty selfless.

23, just so people don’t have to buy new jerseys.
(Full disclosure: I went full-on Hulkamaniac on my the night of the decision, and ripped the front from neck to waist. It’s long-gone.)
I think Dan Gilbert would approve, more jersey sales!!!
Great point about #6 by Scott that’s the number that should be retired if you wanna talk about championships especially.
Cavaliers marketing does not agree!
23
Yeah, I did approach this from the standpoint of someone who doesn’t buy jerseys or player-specific apparel. Also, it’s not like LeBron hasn’t been a hypocrite in other ways anyway. (Guys, I really am glad he’s back. Really!)

THIS all day.
Nothing wrong with a LeBron cardigan.
Jordan?
32.
Not 23 or 6. I like 32, but am more opposed to 23 and 6 than I am in favor of any other specific number. This is a fresh start for everyone, don’t need reminders of the past.
Wasn’t 32 his first number? That would be cool.
Wait… Dude can decide who should be on the final roster but can’t pick a jersey number?
6 – Like it or not, it better represents who and where he is at this point. The name on the front of the jersey shows the present/future, but the number 6 will never let us forget about the past.
32
his # in HS for a bit
216
is anyone in Cleveland allowed to wear #32 in any sport anymore? seems wrong.
though, on the angle of the sport’s best athlete leaving the team in his prime, then it makes sense.
lebron would be allowed, i think. it’s also transposed 23. it’s also his freshman svsm number.
he doesnt want to wear 23 because it’s jordan’s number, that makes sense.
i dont want him to wear 6 because that’s his miami era number, let it stay in miami.
therefore, im in for 32.
Yeah, I forgot the Jim Brown connection. (Not much of a Browns fan – they didn’t exist through much of my childhood.) Different sport, fair game
11, because this one goes to 11! Hello Cleveland!
How about 19? đ
If Cleveland knew that Lebron was going to sign that kind of contract, maybe they should have reconsidered another free agent, especially 1 that didn’t try to be CO-GM with David Griffin! Jersey #?!! What is this, Tiger Beat Magazine?!! Get away from J-Z too, only JESUS saves! Peace
or Ascot? Just ask Randy Lerner
Because he’s about to turn 30yo and hence will have diminishing skills?
23 is a symbol of what he couldn’t achieve to surpass Jordan. He’s no Jordan, never was going to be. 6 is a reminder of going to Miami to try and match Jordan’s accomplishments. He’s just not in Jordan’s category.
Of course!
23, but either way it’s time for the CAVS to bring back the blue and orange jerseys for good. Enough of the mustard & ketchup color combination!
Yeah, after Larry Hughes we should have just retired it, no offense to Spencer Hawes….
32
Is there any rule against 3 digit numbers? 216 or 330.
I had a terrible dream last night that Lebron picked 75.
