Ray Allen deciding between Cavs, Rockets and Retirement

July 16, 2014While Ray Allen deliberates his future, James Jones has reportedly jumped ahead of him in former members of the Miami Heat to join LeBron James in Cleveland.
#Cavs have signed James Jones to one year deal for league minimum, source tells the Beacon Journal
— Jason Lloyd (@ByJasonLloyd) July 16, 2014
Jones appeared in only 20 games for the Heat last season, averaging 4.9 points in 11.8 minutes of action, but he is a very close friend of James, both players’ respective families vacationing together as recent as this past summer. The 6-foot-8-inch space-creating swingman would likely just provide depth behind James and recent addition Mike Miller, allowing the four-time All-Star to potentially slide to the ‘stretch 4′ position with David Blatt at the helm.
It’s clear that the Cavs are pinpointing players who are not just friends with James, but those who can create the space needed for the Cavs’ offense to thrive. Jones led the NBA lasts season in catch-and-shoot situations, hitting 52 percent of his attempts. This past May, James went to bat for Jones, pleading for the three-point specialist to receive more playing time.
“It’s the space that he provides, and his ability to shoot the ball,” said LeBron. “You can’t do both when he’s out on the floor: You can’t help on my drive and try to contest the threes.”
Jones fielded offers from Golden State, Washington, New Orleans and Miami before choosing Cleveland. Your move, Ray. Everybody’s doing it.

Good depth signing. I’m pretty sure he forgot how to shoot a layup ages ago, but he might still be burying corner threes when he’s 90 years old. I’d still love for the Cavs to sign Ray Allen as well, but more importantly they have to find another center. That’s the tricky one right there.
Old Rich Lady: I hear basketball players make a lot of money.
J.Jones: Well, that depends on how good you are.
Old Rich Lady: How good are you?
J.Jones: I make the league minimum.
Hahaha, or in other words, roughly $1.5 million per year. I accidentally lose that much money in my couch each year… small change.
If we do also get Ray Allen, then Mike Brown’s dream offense could be a reality.
J.Jones – right corner 3pt line
M.Miller – left corner 3pt line
R.Allen – top of key 3pt line
Kyrie and LeBron giving each other pick-n-drive opportunities and dishing to those shooters if the defense dares to clog the lane.
I think I just heard a pair of designer frames smashing against a wall. Don’t worry though, he’s got plenty of $$$ to replace them.
Don’t forget the free uniforms and everything. It’s great!
“Yeah, we’ve got uniforms and everything!”
hmm, i’m not sure who got that uniforms line in first. it was close.
Jussssssssssssstttt a bit outside close?
Or this close?

Good grief!!! It’s bad enough we’re keeping Andy V. around at almost $10 mil this year for Lebron, do we have to hire the Heat cast offs too?!! If we think that Powell and Haywood are going to do the job at the 5 (Center), GUESS AGAIN!!! Give James what he needs – BIGS that are nasty and will clear space in the paint!!!
Miami north this is the opposite of all the geriatrics heading south for the season. Seems like a log jam in the backcourt perhaps someone, Dionnnnnnnn, is on the way out.
which BIGS would you like? and which of those will sign for the veteran minimum?
The Cavs signed a role player to a 1-year deal at the vet minimum. This player by the way was backed by James, on the record, for the way he opens up the lane when James drives to the hoop. OUTRAGE!
Unfortunately, that’s not how the NBA salary cap works. After signing LeBron, the Cavs had room to add one smallish deal (about 2.7 million per year) and veteran minimum deals. Mike Miller got the smallish deal (called the Room Exception), and rightfully so. The Cavs can basically add all of the veteran minimum deals that they want and stay under the cap. That’s the deal that James Jones got. That’s the deal that a big man will get once they sign him.
Unconfirmed rumor: LeBron’s fav Miami bakery and the SE Florida atmosphere (a close friend and former Heat teammate) are also considering relocating to the Q.
Good grief. I’ve never seen an athlete hypnotize everything he contacts like The Chosen One. It must be true: in 2010 Dracula Riley bit his neck in the IMG Building. Use your powers for good, Chosen One.
Based on his knowledge of the game, his accomplishments and status as one of the top 5 players to ever play the game I think he’s earned the right to have some roster influence, no? Even Pat Riley took his input and moved to draft Napier.
Browns training camp starts next week, and that means you-know-who will be front and center…

I didn’t know Lebron played center… 🙂
I am guessing this means Allen is retiring or going to Houston.
A Lebron James fantasy camp of old friends is nice but that’s not going to bring the rings. Miami didn’t have an answer for Tim Duncan and neither do we. Powell and Haywood’s contract need to be dealt asap? Dr. Evil, just do it!!! Tired of hearing about Kevin Love, get Ryan Kelly & save a ton of $! Already have blown enough, i.e. Irving’s MAX deal! U could get Jan Vesely, Greg Stiemsma or Greg Oden for Minimum!!! Bigs are getting picked up NOW!!! Forget Love, how bout a deal for Monroe or Blatche! Want the Ring or wanna just dream?
Sorry, I didn’t think I was drinking but I thought I read that you would rather have Blatche or Oden than Love.
WHY ARE YOU YELLING?
Draculas aren’t real.
“Earned the right” is not my point. There’s unprecedented player movement occurring now, but there’s never been a Pied Piper like LeBron, inducing former teammates to take less and move to a place like Cleveland, inducing a Kevin Love to promise an extension before he’s traded, inducing the Cavs to clear cap space by dumping potentially decent pieces without certainty he’d come home.
Raab’s book quotes Gilbert as saying he’d never again let one player shape the franchise direction. But right now he and Griffin are greenlighting every guy LeBron feels comfy with. It could be a good thing, seeing all these guys have big game bona fides and that LeBron is the fulcrum on the court But I find the immediate uber-empowerment kind of stunning. Is LeBron even back from Brazil yet?
Whoo-hooo!
Classic straight-laced, loving, caring wife (Hoyer) vs. racy wild-child seductress (Manziel) battle coming up. Officially recognized as the Aniston-Jolie Conundrum.
It’s like David Kahn got a WFNY commenter account.
Check my other post here – Jason Smith just got snatched up by the Nicks TODAY!!!

but .. but .. what if LeBron visits camp? That would be an epic dance-off, I’m just not sure which serpent belongs to Pharoah and which to Moses.
Yeah, that worked out well for Pat!
sshhh .. he’s on a roll.
Snakes On A Plain.
Having another good 4 that doesn’t D-up is ok, and Love is really good, but I have watched Lebron walk off the court TOO many times after a failed championship run because of milk toast 5’s and or because they put Bron in that position, so no, your not drunk, its smelling salts.
or maybe
And we know which one ESPN will be pimping.
Meh. It’s 1.5 mill and you’re appeasing the best player in the game, a worthy investment I say.
Nkicks
Because the Cavs are giving Bron too much of what he wants and not what he needs – BIG, NASTY 5’s that will push people out of the way instead of crowding the back court. We could win THIS YEAR, but not this way!!!

Sadly, given the state of available centers, he was on my list as well.
Hoyer. ESPN still feeling spurned by LRMR after the whole LeBron announcment. Right?
how many championships has Ibaka + Perkins delivered for Durant?
Yeah, an’ I like my women just a little on the trashy side,
When they wear their clothes too tight and their hair is dyed.
Too much lipstick an’ er too much rouge,
Gets me excited, leaves me feeling confused.
An’ I like my women just a little on the trashy side.
it is the final step in LeBron moving away from the Michael comparisons and towards the more apt Magic comparisons
and that player happens to do one thing that every team needs (and Blatt’s system needs) in shooting 3pters.
just like Delonte. hey-O.
Stop it!

Must…resist….
no, I wasn’t actually referring to what you think I was referring to. I was referring to this article:

Eating Popeye’s chicken on a yacht.
Check my reply above. Jason Smith signed a contract about $2 million above the veteran minimum. The Cavs couldn’t sign him for that due to salary cap restrictions.
we should be comparing Magic to LeBron – not the other way around.
yeah – i mean Kevin Love has said he would spend the next 4-5 years of his life in Cleveland instead of LA.
I hear the music and see the rats….
