Tribe “Deep Tracks” Trivia, Vol. 1: Reliving Yesteryear
July 17, 2014LeBron has talked to Kevin Love about playing in Cleveland
July 17, 2014So about all that ‘untouchable’ talk… It has taken a little over one week for the Cleveland Cavaliers to loosen their grip on No. 1 overall pick Andrew Wiggins if in fact it were to net them Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love. Bob Finnan of The Morning Journal reports, citing a league source, that the Cavs are now willing to trade the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 draft.
Up until this point, it was assumed the Cavs wanted to hang onto Wiggins, largely because of comments made by Coach David Blatt in Las Vegas. Finnan’s source, however, said that the recently signed LeBron James wants the 6-10, 250-pound Love on the Cavaliers’ roster. James’ pull has also netted the Cavs swingmen Mike Miller and James Jones, two former teammates of James during his time with the Miami Heat. (Miller recently told ESPN Radio’s Colin Cowherd that he’s attempting to lure fellow shooting guard and former teammate Ray Allen to Cleveland as well.)
Finnan reports that the latest offer could include Wiggins, last years’ No. 1 pick in power forward Anthony Bennett and an additional first-round pick. Center Brendan Haywood, who was acquired on draft night, might be included in the deal to make it work contractually. USA Today’s Jeff Zillgitt corroborates Finnan’s report regarding Wiggins being available.
This deal, if transacted, would be the exact opposite of what Grantland’s Bill Simmons recently coined “Don’t Do The Wrong Thing Every Time Anymore” movement.

The above rumor wasn’t Finnan it was mentioned on All Bets Are Off and it may have been two first round picks which would have been closer.
Defense is overrated especially in the NBA you are still stuck in Mike Brown mode. Neither the Spurs nor the Heat had great defensive statistics and they were in the finals. Besides defense is more about desire and will you have to believe the addition and presence alone of LBJ will improve the infant Cavaliers.
Other than make gigantic unjustified sums of money?
Ummm, stink, stink, stink and stink.
It would seemingly take him pulling a Carmelo and demanding to be trade to one and only one spot.
All of the rumored destinations seem like they would be very likely to make the playoffs with him, even Boston. Does he just want a taste of the playoffs, or does he want to make another super-best-friends team?
Don’t like the possibility of Love sticking around. Now if something could come from a deal with Memphis then that would interest me almost as much.
Lebron and Bosh both took less than the max to go to Miami.
You just forgot two of these

AND LBJ was never even the highest paid player on Miami.
That trade works.
Love costs 15.7M.
Wiggins can get up to 5.5M, Bennett is at 5.5M, and Haywood is at 2.2M – 13.2M total.
LeBron has been smart at his career by being a narcissistic cry baby.
Deadspin had a fantastic piece this week on if you take away the fairytale “coming home” narrative to his return what you really have is a top free agent “ditching a loyal group of aging teammates for a bigger salary and a franchise with better and younger talent and more maneuverability under the salary cap.”
Is it great that he’s back and able to attract a better crop of free agents that he had before? Yes.
Is he back to having control to every move the franchise makes which will inevitably send us into a crash because we dumped all our assets on Kevin Love due to their fear of losing him again? Yes.
After I read Simmons’s “Don’t Panic Wolves Are Bluffing!” piece I flip-flopped again. Third opinion change in 48 hours.
Ok. Ok. If they do it I’ll say “duh, of course you give up a potential top 10 player for a guy who IS a top 10 player and makes you the conference favorite for the next 5 years.” Stop being a Clevelander, Harv. They are handing us a half decade of July basketball – Take yes for an answer, doofus.
If they don’t do it I’ll say “duh, Wiggins is the top pick for a reason, and even his floor is so high just call the ‘Wolves bluff. He will look like Pippin getting no-looks from LeBron. He”ll shut down the opponent’s top scorer in the playoffs so LeBron can save his energy. Give him away when you might get both if you calm down and you’ll have another instant classic cleveland screw-up.”
I hate this/love this. The Cavs off-season is way more exciting than any of their games the last 4 years. I need a Johnny Party story to calm me down. I reserve the right to criticize whatever Griffin does, and also to say I told you so. I’m going to lay down now.
I fear it will be the other way around.
Are u crazy y tade him whn u can get him for nun next yr
Thts y u not a gm n u wont have nun in the future
no weigh. Cost us least a priest
Just because I love defense, I’m “stuck in Mike Brown mode?” Ouch.
Y give up on Wiggins whn u have not even seen him play yet. Y give him up whn u can get him free thts like payin full price for a toy thts gne b free in a couple months jus waite thts wat u dip shits for get he is not goin no were jus waite till next yr he said he wont to play there damn
Thnk u sumbody thts using there head
Thnk u man jus fuckin waite
“a loyal group of again teammates” my oh my we are really rewriting history aren’t we? puhlease. Of course there was more to his returning anyone with common sense knew that but so what after 4 years of pitiful basketball it’s no wonder people are at his house.
I don’t know how much control he has or doesn’t have there were rumors about Kevin Love before LBJ ever had a chance at coming back. Regardless the Cavaliers have a better shot at a championship with James then without him. If you want to continue to try and build teams in order to win then by all means. I would just think between the three pro sports teams in Cleveland the patience would have worn out oh say four years ago. But that’s just my opinion.
Worry about tht next yr james jones has a yr n if thy sign ray he would to thy would have space. Look I dnt care for Wiggins but if he can ply off the bench n give us 15 n give lebron a break y give him up think lobg term
That wasn’t an insult or anything it’s just that defense does not win championships in basketball that’s football.
Perhaps a Bishop too!

I agree jus waite
If Wiggins is available, wouldn’t there be other teams willing to bid for him? Maybe get some inside D? Also, are there really that many contending teams that will have cap space for him next year?
What in the unholy hell did you say??
No, really – what?
???!??
Aha, thanks. I am the one that cannot do math.
(actually, had the max number stuck in my head from the sign-n-trade discussions.)
huh?!!??!
yes, they did. but LeBron wanted the 6 year contract with a 4year opt-out and the only way to get that was for a sign-n-trade.
wait… what?
Hablo ingles?
that is the more likely path, yes.
IF YA SMELL WHAT THE ROCK IS COOKIN’!!!!
WTF?
Miami had 11th defensive rating for season (5th offense)
SA had 3rd defensive rating for season (7th offense)
per b-r
What if he’s Jewish?
Uh okay well that makes it look like balance between offense and defense is the best route. Who’d have thought?
Do you really think that was any kind of hold up? That if he had to take a five year deal with the opt out still after year four, he might say “forget it”?
He also got more money. No, I don’t think it mattered that much, but he wanted it and he got it. Again, if it wasn’t so poorly played by LRMR, then it should have been the one saving grace on the PR front.
yes, agreed you need both. but, it also sort of kills your
Neither the Spurs nor the Heat had great defensive statistics and they were in the finals
Admittedly I don’t want to trade Ender because he’s my favorite new Cav since LeBron. But Love is Love and if he’ll resign here, get him.
…but I REALLY hope we can keep Wiggins.
BAD DEAL. As has been said below, this is giving up to much for a guy you can net in a sign & trade next year. If he really wants to come to the Cavs, even if he’s traded to another team he can refuse to re-sign and we get him S&T style. I think the Cavs need to retain the flexibility of making a major trade this year, then using Haywood’s ballooning contract to add a fifth piece to the Kyrie/Wiggins/Lebron/TBD core next offseason.
Just because the rumor is out there does not mean it is true. How many rumors run by the sports media turns out to be true? Not many!!! The fact is, Minnesota is in a bad spot. If they talk about trading him to any other team, all Love has to do is state that he will not sign an extension with any team but Cleveland. If a Minnesota and any other team wants to play that game, so be it. Minnesota is not in position to demand much, no matter what they may say for public consumption. Cleveland can hold out for as long as they need to…can Minnesota do the same?
Maybe you will not be back…if you drown yourself!!!
please read Before You Comment. no need for such hostility as we can disagree amicably around these parts.
Exactly!!! Minnesota is trying to play hardball when they are not really in position to do so. The Cavs can wait them out. Again, all Love has to do is continuing saying that he will not sign any extension if he is traded to a team that he does not intend to sign an extension with. What will Minnesota do then?

That deal doesn’t sound kosher to me.
