With LeBron gone, Heat lock up Chris Bosh

Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Miami Heat have signed free agent Chris Bosh to a five-year deal.

Bosh turned down a four-year offer from the Houston Rockets to stay in Miami. He got the LeBron money.

The Heat have a lot of work to do. They only have a few players under contract, and will now have to compete with the Cavaliers on some of the veterans that were willing to play for the minimum like Ray Allen and Chris Anderson.

Wade and Haslem look like the next targets.

I must say I give Bosh credit for returning personally I’d have gone to Houston but I guess all that $$$ after winning two titles was hard to pass up.

Thanks for the 2015 first rounder, Miami. Top ten protected.

Shorter for wade? Why did he opt out again?

Good news for the Cavs’ title hopes over the next four years. Miami with Bosh & Wade’s shot knees is an also ran–a 5th seed & exit in the 2nd round-type team, and that’s only if Riley can assemble a whole team out of what’s left in free agency. Houston, OTOH, with Bosh alongside Howard, Harden & Parsons would be a serious championship contender. Obviously, the Cavs will only have to go through one Western Conference juggernaut for the title, but the weaker they all are, the better.

And how much does this suck for Houston? They thought they were going to land Melo, then thought Bosh would be a nice consolation prize, and now all they get is to keep Parsons, who they were going to keep, anyway.

They couldn’t add a Melo or Bosh and retain Parsons.

5 years at max money compared to 4. Boshasaurus getting paid like Miami’s best player (and he is right now); using Houston as leverage while knowing that LeBron was returning to Cleveland and knowing that Riley was (and still is) desperate was very savvy. Death to the “super team” built solely through free agency!

I’m not a Bosh fan never been and I don’t believe he used LBJ as a bargaining ploy. It’s been reported that LeBron didn’t decide until Thursday he was returning to the Cavaliers so I really believe Bosh was just left hanging like the rest of us.

It just seems to me Houston was a better place for him but hey, I’m poor I’ll never know what it’s like to have a Brinks truck full of money so I can’t fault Boshasaurus for staying.

Don’t get what Pat Riley’s doing signing Wade. LeBron carried them to home court advantage while Wade rested 30 games and took most of the load in other games. With both Wade and Bosh they’ll probably make the playoffs but consequently lose that protected first round draft pick to us. Seems Riley should eat a year to retool, get in the lottery and try to get a good young player. Otherwise they’re headed toward being that cliche veteran team “no one wants to meet in the playoffs” but all they can do is beat teams up a little, not win the series.
