August 26, 2014Larry Drew “blindsided” by offseason firing, excited about buzz in Cleveland
August 26, 2014Monday night the Browns announced that they had been awarded a pair of offensive linemen from Philadelphia via waivers. Karim Barton and Donald Hawkins are undrafted rookies and have been playing guard in Eagles camp.
Barton is a 6-3, 313-pound rookie out of Morgan State. Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by Philadelphia on May 10, Barton played as a reserve in all three of the Eagles’ preseason games. After transferring from Canyons Junior College, Barton started nine of 11 games at right tackle for Morgan State. Originally from Jamaica, Barton graduated from Verdugo Hills High School in Los Angeles.
Hawkins is 6-4, 310-pound rookie out of Texas. Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by Philadelphia on May 10, Hawkins played as a reserve in all three of the Eagles’ preseason games. After transferring from Northwest Community College, Hawkins started 24 of his 25 games at Texas. Born in Memphis, Tenn., Hawkins graduated from Rosa Fort High School in Tunica, Miss.
The team also announced on Tuesday that they have placed OL Michael Bowie and LB Darius Eubanks on injured reserve. Both players have had surgery this month to repair injured shoulders. Bowie is the offensive lineman they picked off of waivers from Seattle, supposedly breaking an “unwritten rule”.
The moves leave the Browns with 76 on the roster. There will be at least one more roster move today as all teams must be at 75 players by Tuesday night.

after the Indians traded Masterson, we had to pick up another Jamaican for a Cleveland sport’s team.
Next up: a Bobsled team! Maybe at Progressive Field for Winterfest.
Good idea given how terrible the backup OL have looked thus far. Now if they could just find a couple WRs.
Bowie will most likely be fighting Schwartz for the RT spot next year. It is good that he will have this year on IR to get familiar with the offensive system and terminology.
Well played Farmer.
The Super Bowl winning Seahawks can take their “unwritten rule” and cram it.
I doubt it will be much of a fight.
I bet Josh knows some Jamaicans.
Bess is an honorary Jaimacan, right?
