Baseball isn’t dying, but is it kind of like Microsoft?
August 13, 2014Surprise! The state of Texas thinks Johnny Manziel should start Browns opener
August 13, 2014The Indians take on the Arizona Diamondbacks today in a traditional doubleheader starting at 4 pm. The team is currently on a two game win streak after beating the New York Yankees two out of three games this past weekend. The Tribe could get a boost on Friday when they are expected to activate Michael Bourn off the D.L. He was placed on the 15-day D.L. on July 6 after injuring his hamstring. Manager Terry Francona said before the doubleheader today that Bourn will start on Friday and Saturday against the Baltimore Orioles and sit on Sunday. This move could give the team an offensive boost for the stretch run.
On a less positive note, Nick Swisher will get a second opinion on his injured right knee. He will travel to Los Angeles on Tuesday to meet with Dodgers’ team physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache. The Indians should know more after this examination on the status of Swisher for the rest of the year. It will be interesting to see how the team handles Swisher’s status for the rest of the regular season.
Terry Francona said Michael Bourn will be activted Friday. He'll start Friday and Saturday vs. Baltimore and get Sun. off.

Hopefully, Swisher’s knee is okay for spring training next year and Bourn doesn’t block any youngsters we want to see down the stretch.
The new design on MLB’s Gameday webpage is horrendous. Takes skillful manipulation to be able to scroll through the box score. Plus it lags quite a bit.
We’re still in this. Albeit only somewhat. So I’m okay with Bourn blocking someone. My hope is more that he’ll play better than he has (and stay healthy). Him and Miles Austin should start sharing notes.
Bourn and Austin can cross off what doesn’t work I guess.
And, I guess we are technically still in it, but I just don’t see us as a better team than Detroit, Seattle or KC as currently assembled and we’d have to pass 2 of them (along with Toronto and NYY while holding off TB). I think we win between 80-88 games, but it’s not going to be enough this time around.
Bourn’s becoming the Tribe’s Varajao. Every time he plays long enough to get in a groove he gets hurt again.
Two seasons after he was supposed to be turning singles into doubles he’s yet to start running as his stolen base biological clock runs out. Nice but fragile player who makes about three times his current worth. C’mon, farm system, start churning some bona fide ML-quality outfielders. Like every other org does.
