LeBron’s Jeep up for Auction
September 5, 2014Indians activate Murphy and recall Sellers
September 5, 2014Despite the fact that the Browns upgraded their stadium this year with brand new video screens, the ticket prices are still lagging the rest of the NFL. Considering the horrendous displays on the field and the instability in Berea, it makes sense.
According to an AP report, the average NFL ticket is $84.43, which is up 3.5% from a year ago. The Browns, however are still only $54.20 on average. Meanwhile, the Patriots and 49ers lead the pack in terms of average price at $122 and $117, respectively. With the 49ers, it’s a double-whammy as they also have the league’s most expensive beer. The cheapest beer available is $10.25 for 20 ounces.
From a pure cost perspective, it’s a great time to be a Cleveland fan. The Indians have the third cheapest tickets in the Majors as well. The Cavaliers are more middle of the road with an average ticket price around $50, I’m guessing those tickets aren’t going to be cheap here in the next few years. And why should they be with LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and now Kevin Love too?

Finally!
Okay, I am the only weird Browns fan: Born and raised in Chicago in a family that doesn’t watch sports. We had a family event one Sunday when I was a little kid in January 1980 and my cousins were watching the Browns vs. the Raiders, and low and behold, this chicago boy became a browns fan. Yes, I have cheered for the Browns instead of the bears ever since. And by the way, I make an annual trek to cleveland to partake in cheap seats, as I burn more in gas than I do with the two tickets I buy for my son and I. And I praise the gods for NFL sunday ticket.
So, while I can’t claim to be a Clevelander, I can claim that I am a Browns fan. Usually when I tell people in chicago this story I get some bonehead comment about how being a cubs fan is actually worse than being a Browns fan. My reply is always something like: The Cubs were not stolen by the City of Baltimore like the Clevenand BROWNS were and the Saint Louis BROWNS were. (What is it about Baltimore and stealing BROWNS? yes, the Orioles used to be the St. Louis BROWNS.)
Maybe I am an idiot, and I don’t have a drop of Cleveland Blood in me, but I love love love the Browns, even over the mighter monsters of the Midway and the likes of Walter Payton. Always have, always will. However, the cheap seats is not what brings me to the game, but considering that I pay for for the every other year pre-season game between the Browns and Bears at soldier field, I must say these are really cheap seats…
