Indulging in the spoils of a Cleveland Browns win
September 17, 2014T-Wolves to hype Andrew Wiggins with “Midnight Madness” dunk contest
September 17, 2014It feels like just yesterday that Clevelanders were standing outside of the Sherwin-Williams building while construction workers dismantled the giant LeBron James banner that adorned it’s side for years. Not long after, we all celebrated the arrival of a brighter, more city-focused banner that replaced that which only praised one man. But times, they apparently change.
The Sherwin-Williams Co. and Gigantic Media have reportedly asked the city of Cleveland to approve a new 10-story banner of LeBron James, who graced the side of the Landmark Office Towers until he left Cleveland for the Miami Heat in 2010.
The new image is almost a reversal of the old banner, which showed James from the front and carried the tagline “We Are All Witnesses.” Images submitted to the Cleveland City Planning Commission on Tuesday show James with his arms stretched, once again, across the eastern face of the Landmark Office Towers, the Sherwin-Williams headquarters complex at the back of Tower City. But rather than focusing on James, the image doesn’t even show the four-time MVP’s face—it’s his back, and above the No. 23 is the word “Cleveland.”
No Witnesses. No script. No scowl. Just a simple swoosh in the upper, right-hand corner.
There is plenty of red tape when it comes to multi-story billboards in Cleveland, but it’s tough to envision any scenario where this one isn’t on the corner of Ontario and Huron in the not-so-distant future.

Not bad, but if they want to go more city, less individual, they should have the skyline in the backdrop instead of faceless fans. Or find someway to combine those two – fans at the bottom (and more zoomed in so you can actually tell they’re people) giving way to the city at top (in place of the upper deck).
P.S. Feel free to give SherWill my contact info when they ask for it.
Holy hell! I just got an email from Sherwin Williams! Granted it was for a paint sale, but still, the odds!
I think this is a bad idea unless the team is somehow incorporated as well.
I’ll say it: do not like this. Please, no more messianic imagery. That mass delusion ended 4 years ago and though LeBron is back we’re the better for that infantile fantasy’s end. How about waiting a year for Love to extend and then going with an inspiring shot of the Big 3? A team to get behind, not a Magic Man to save us all.
I’m shocked! 😉
And for the same reasons, no powder throws after the home opener. That braggadocio is for immature teens, not a hardened champ teaching young teammates the hard work it takes to win.
Cleveland learned nothing from the last time..
i got no problem with this. The thing i do have a problem with is the website that ranked the top small forwards of all-time and had Larry Bird in front of LeBron.
Don’t you feel the imagery is – both intentionally and unintentionally – less loaded with messianic imagery and expectations than it was all those years ago? There still has to be room for people to enjoy the mythos of a local hero – can’t throw the baby out with the bathwater
Oh, good idea! A mural of all three; nothing could go wrong then.

How about this…
in light of LeBron’s new hair transplant; this picture with the tag “ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE”

did everyone conveniently forget about the TWO titles they won? I’d trade that for just about anything.
It’s Miami… I doubt half the fans realized they won titles in the first place.
….the other half only knew they won two titles and didn’t realize they played any regular season games.
well, isn’t that easier than taking the WHOLE THING DOWN?
