September 26, 2014Judging the 2014 Cleveland Indians season – WFNY Podcast – 2014-09-27
September 27, 2014Josh Gordon has had many many (many) chances to “get it.” He had more chances than most guys get during his brief college career. Then he had a chance when he was drafted in the supplemental draft. Then he had a chance with the codeine / cough syrup ordeal. It gets tiresome even recounting Josh Gordon’s whole history, but according to one of his coaches, despite the fact that it never has stuck before, Josh Gordon is finally finally getting it this time.
“Without a doubt (he understands it),” said receivers coach Mike McDaniel. “There’s no question in my mind. Now, do I think originally he understood the ramifications of his actions before he ever had a slip-up? Probably not, but it happens as it goes. That’s one thing I’ve really been taken aback by is how much responsibility he’s definitely taking and he needs to continue to take. But he’s definitely taking (it) on himself. It doesn’t sit well with him that he’s in this situation.
I’ll believe it when I see it, of course, just like the rest of you. I do think it’s possible for young guys to mature and finally “get it,” but there’s no way to know for sure. We don’t even know all the variables that led Josh Gordon down the path he’s walked so far. Real change isn’t created by saying things. Real change is created by actually changing the variables that got you to the point you were in the first place. Is it just in Josh’s head? Is it in the heads of those Josh Gordon surrounds himself with? Nobody but Josh and those closest to him know for sure.
Hopefully it’s change for real because Josh has had more chances than most and it’s hard to keep finding excuses or ways that he could get another one. Even as I’ve supported him in his latest bout with the NFL’s drug policy, there’s no doubting he makes himself tough to defend.

Gordon = Pookie.
Josh Gordon, I will send Dancing Octorok into your dreams to help serenade you out of your past and into your bright future. In time you will rely on her as your go to remedy of choice. (Until the NFL bans that substance for no apparent reason.)

New season October 7th! Supernatural may be the only show on TV that I actually enjoy.
If I can change…

Listen. I like a little second-hand smoke as much as the next guy. But there’s a time and a place for it, and that time is not at the emergence of an extraordinarily promising professional football career. I have been an idiot several, several times in my life; but the most significant repercussion I had to manage was watching it go down the toilet once with Mom’s scowling glare upon me. I just had to wait until I left for college.
Had I millions of dollars and a decade of playing a game to earn that money in front of me, the choice would have been very clear for me. But that’s me. I sincerely hope Mr. Gordon “gets it” this time, because his future is so much brighter than a Bic on a bong.
Craig, based on everything we’ve seen, I think a more realistic headline would be, “Josh Gordon probably still doesn’t get it, but we’ll see.”
The definition of insanity and all.
It’s so simple to just get drunk and take a cab. In fact, I think that’s what he’ll do when he “gets it”.
