Week 2 Film Room: The Offense
September 19, 2014Browns Fan’s Thoughts as the Ravens Come to Town
September 19, 2014Talk about ill-timed bye weeks. Though it would be nice to be able to carry momentum into this weekend, the Ohio State Buckeyes, fresh off of their dismantling of Kent State, will have this Saturday off in preparation of the September 27 contest against the Cincinnati Bearcats.
Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer is giving his players some rest, but not much—he’s expecting his team to hit the ground running and not let this weekend’s break keep them from building off of what they have following their loss to Virginia Tech earlier this month.
“Yeah, they’ll get a couple of days off, but then it’s back to work,” said Meyer. “Time to move on. A bye week, then get ready.”
Last Saturday, Quarterback JT Barrett led the Bucks to the win, completing 23 of his 30 attempts for 312 yards, six touchdowns and an interception. On the ground, running back Curtis Samuel was the leading rusher with 15 carries for 100 yards and two touchdowns. Wide recevier Michael Thomas had two receptions for 77 yards with both catches resulting in touchdowns.
The No. 23 Buckeyes will resume practice on Tuesday in hopes of cleaning up some of their on-going problems, but will ultimately strive to put their program (and the rest of the Big Ten) in a position for respectability when the four-team tournament field is set this December. They returned to form after a tough loss against the Hokies, showing dominance on both sides of the ball against the Golden Flashes.
While his players may have time off, Meyer is spending the weekend scouting, reportedly stopping in North Ridgeville high before taking in the St. Clairsville game on Friday night. Ohio State’s top in-state linebacker target for 2016, Brendan Ferns, will be visted by Meyer as well as defensive coordinator Luke Fickell.
