Best Bets: Cavs Props for the 2014-15 Season
October 24, 2014Buckeyes Head to Happy Valley
October 24, 2014While plenty of mystery surrounds Cleveland’s opening night tilt against the New York Knicks, one thing has been revealed: Anderson Varejao will be the Cavaliers’ starting center.
Cavs head coach David Blatt had tinkered with the idea of starting Tristan Thompson at the center spot and brining Varejao off of the bench. Both players had flourished in various capacities alongside LeBron James throughout the preseason, but were prone to up-and-down nights. Against the Chicago Bulls earlier this week, Varejao racked up 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting with eight rebounds, two steals and two blocks in just 23 minutes. In the team’s preseason finale, he hit just 1-of-4 shots for two points and one rebound in 16 minutes with James in street clothes.
As will be the case all season, the Cavs are rife with interchangeable pieces. Expect Thompson to be on the floor plenty, but in a reserve role behind Varejao and starting power forward Kevin Love. For now, Andy will get to work that pick-and-roll game with the starting five.

I wondered if the starter at center might not depend on the opponent but I love how Varejao has looked in the exhibition games. I’m just nervous he can last the season particularly when he has to go against the larger centers night in and night out. The good news is Thompson is playing with tremendous energy and Haywood hasn’t looked like a complete stiff. That being said I would feel a little better with one more big guy around. Perhaps as the season goes on something might present itself in the form of a trade.
brined Brazilian center cuts are the meastiest
It sounds like Alex Kirk will make the team, if that helps.

I didn’t mention him for a reason but actually he reminds me of a poor man’s Chris Kaman. That being said I was thinking bigger name and stature.
Oh yeah!! Very Awesome indeed. 😉
Outstanding!
Indeed!!
Bigger name and stature, eh? Andre Drummond? Anthony Davis? Tyler and/or Cody Zeller, perhaps? Me, I’m thinking there will be no trades until the end of the season. Coach Blatt will probably run with Tristan and Anderson as centers until the cows come home. That decision won’t bother me at all.
I said thinking not dreaming! I was thinking more Mozgov maybe Udoh something along those lines but I wouldn’t want to bet that Griffin is done. I think as the season progresses people will realize what they have and how now is not the time to wait until next year. As we all know next year isn’t always better!
