Ohio State rolls again; St. Ignatius gets a big win
October 20, 2014It’s not time for Johnny Manziel to take over… yet
October 20, 2014Well that will fix it! The Browns have responded to their poor performance against the Jaguars on Sunday by releasing starting fullback Ray Agnew and replacing him with Kiero Small off of the practice squad.
Small is a 5-9, 242-pound rookie out of Arkansas. Originally selected by Seattle in the seventh round, Small spent the first seven weeks of the season on the Browns’ practice squad. He appeared in 26 games during his two years at Arkansas, where he was moved to fullback after playing linebacker at Hartnell Community College. A native of Baltimore, Md., Small graduated from Cardinal Gibbons High School.
Now that that’s taken care of we won’t have to talk about all the coaching mistakes, the idea of replacing Brian Hoyer or whether or not the Browns maybe should have traded Jordan Cameron for Percy Harvin.
That whole paragraph was a joke, by the way. I’m merely poking fun at the week-to-week reaction to the Browns games as if they can go from being a playoff-bound lock after trouncing Pittsburgh into a quarterback-rotating tear-down project the following week after a poor showing in Jacksonville.
I prefer to look at the bright side. Folks thought I was crazy to hold the Browns accountable to eight wins. That still seems kind of reasonable as a midpoint benchmark for a year like this.
As for Kiero Small, I don’t know much about him, but he’ll fit in well in Cleveland’s t-shirt economy. He spent some time working at his family’s t-shirt biz in downtown Baltimore before enrolling at Hartnell Junior College in California. That was before he ended up at Arkansas.
I don’t know what this means for the Browns, exactly. It could even be about special teams or something unrelated to lead-blocking and other typical fullback duties. We’ll see.

SUPER BOWL!
What’s Larry Vickers up to these days?
Can he return punts? (i kid, i kid)
Can he snap?
I hear he’s better at setting the edge than Mingo.
There has been a lot of snide snickering about Agnew’s release, based on assumptions that he is taking the arrow for yesterday’s loss. But we don’t know why he was cut. Did he have a confrontation with a coach or teammate? Has he been warned before about something or other? Is he a locker-room lawyer?
Until we know why he was cut, we shouldn’t be getting all snarky.
He is currently tied for 6th in the WFNY eliminator, so he has that going for him.
Right. Let’s get back to discussing how many millions Hoyer will be getting and how to jettison Johnny. Too soon?
