October 23, 2014Downtown Cleveland is going to be all LeBron everything before the year is all said and done.
Most of us have already seen the “RE-ESTABLISHED 2014” Beats by Dre commercial featuring James and the city of Akron as it was prominently featured all weekend during football and posted here on Sunday afternoon. Well now anyone who finds there way near The Q downtown will have a pretty good chance to be reminded of it thanks to a billboard displayed on the side of a parking structure on the corner of Huron and E. 4th. (This, coincidentally, is the same lot that will feature Kendrick Lamar before the team’s October 30 home opener.)
LeBron is probably more than happy to oblige Beats. It was reported some time ago now that the Cavaliers’ small forward realized some phenomenal profits from his Beats association, to the tune of $30 million. That’s an awful lot of headphones.

And here’s the original TV spot if you happened to miss it.
James’ new Nike banner is expected to be unveiled prior to the home opener in a ceremony in front of the Sherwin-Williams building on the corner of Ontario and Prospect Ave.

Looks like it can be taken down rather easily! #foreshadowing
don’t get me started on Beats….
(it IS a cool billboard, though. I like the “Re-Est”)
downtick!!
I dedicate that prior comment to Harv21!
I got nothing against the idea of a LeBron banner per se, but why serve us warmed-up leftovers? As the wording itself concedes, this is déjà been-there-done-that. There must be a hundred better ideas than this.
Edit: Oops, my bad. I just skimmed the article before commenting and assumed this was about the Sherwin-Williams building. But obviously it’s not.
Nevertheless, my point still holds, except that now we have TWO huge, dark, depressing banners. There’s nothing feel-good or celebratory about either. So what’s the point?
Just fyi, categorically reject your characterization of me as anti-LeBron, or Bill Livingston wannabe, or get off my lawn guy. I’m only even saying this bc of this “dedication.” To be clear: 1) I love LeBron the athlete, can’t wait to see the world’s greatest athlete in his prime playing every night for my team. But I do reject the infantile slavishness around any jock, and the jock’s efforts to encourage that, whether for glory or money. Just can’t always thumb-suck with the masses; reserve the right to do that for a few hours whenever his athletic dominance wins a game for my team. 2) Not all cranks are Bill Livingston. I do not like Bill Livingston, who hasn’t had anything to say in the last 10 years and now writes only in the style of about-to-retire Bob Dolgan (oh, just google it). 3) Um … ok, so I’m the lawn guy. A healthy website needs 1 or 2.
Be honest, u feel better now don’t you? #urwelcome
