About That Alley-Oop
October 18, 2014Video: Ohio State Marching Band kills it with ode to Classic Rock
October 19, 2014Pre-season basketball just needs to end. There might be a real basketball game to talk about. Alas, this is what we’ve got. Tristan Thompson was being very strange in a pre-game interview with FSO reporter Allie Clifton. He might have been fulfilling a dare or a bet or doing some kind of inside joke that I’m unaware of. I can’t figure out any other reason for him to act so goofy and call Allie Tina.
It’s certainly an inappropriate thing to do and I really have no idea what Thompson could have been thinking, but there’s some disproportionate hubbub over the whole thing. Here’s Kelly Dwyer at Yahoo.
Just because Allie Clifton remained calm and professional and kept a smile following the buss, it doesn’t mean Tristan Thompson wasn’t straight up sexually harassing her. She remained calm and professional because she is a professional – that is to say, she’s doing her [EXPLETIVE DELETED] job. Don’t kiss someone without their consent, ever, and don’t kiss someone without their consent while they’re doing their job.
This isn’t cute or funny or meme-worthy. There should be no marginalizing or rationalizing of this. That could be a mortifying thing for this reporter, and Thompson couldn’t be more in the wrong.
I mean, I have a tough time disagreeing with Kelly Dwyer, technically. What Tristan Thompson did was wrong and he definitely should be made aware of that, but let’s not pretend that this goofball moment is anything more than a bad, failed joke. Dude was on camera trying to get a laugh.
Let’s not pretend like his intent was to marginalize females or minimize Clifton. That might have been the impact in the end, but it certainly wasn’t the intent. The way Dwyer goes off on it, he makes it seem like Thompson is a half step away from having to register with local police the next time he moves into a new neighborhood.
I’m sure an apology is forthcoming…

Is it possible Tristan could get fined or even suspended some games for this?
You never go full Namath.
While Thompson probably should not have done that, Dwyer’s comments also don’t take into account that Clifton and Thompson have some sort of inside joke interaction EVERY time he’s on camera during pre-game.
If a Bull had done something similar, Dwyer would’ve wrote it was the funniest thing ever.

There is the context I was looking for; it is definitely important if she is somewhat in on the joke.
Also, Just got the video to work, umm… now I’m unsure what Dwyer is talking about
when she said, “alright, alright,” it was her assertion that she understood What TT was talking about – she was in on he joke. Should he have done what he did? I don’t know, but it didn’t seem that Allie was either bothered by it or even perturbed in the slightest.
I would just have kept my mouth shut if i were Dwyer. An overreaction.
must the media and “social” media over react to every damn thing?
So if Allie was a male reporter, would this even be news? Maybe what he did was over the line from a professional standpoint. But the article Dwyer wrote was simply I need people to read my writing because I write for Yahoo and have little to no creditablity,,,
Nah but I’m sure someone will probably talk to him.
It is much a do over nothing and Thompson is a goof but I wasn’t surprised by it. That being said I’m sure someone from the Cavaliers probably already spoke to Thompson. After the interview McLeod made a comment to Austin Carr and Carr never said a word.
The last one of these controversies ended up with the woman being accused of having LBJ’s love baby. Kind of sad but that’s how it goes these days. But this reminds me how many male sideline reporters are there that travel with female teams? How many of them are in the lockerroom while they are finishing showering?
definitely an overreaction. also, he seems prone to them on the Cavs since he had the public spats with Gilbert over politics.
i didn’t know that. Do you have some links? That is important to know going forward, so i can always weigh his opinion properly.
i think if she were a man this would certainly be the biggest story since Michael Sam.
Not a great look for TT. It was innocent enough, but yeah, don’t do that again. Not fair to the reporter.
Geez, whats the big deal, this is 2014, not 1914.
Who is Kelly Dwyer and why do we care about what she says. Sexual harrassment? Wow.
On second review, Kelly Dwyer is a guy…I think…not confirmed
It started in the leadup to the 2008 election and the subsequent recession (Dan Gilbert being a mortgage company owner and people losing their houses). “The letter” certainly didn’t help matters. Then, the CBA when Gilbert was championing the smaller markets made Dwyer bash him a ton.
And, it was the CBA that seemed to finally have Dwyer spill his personal feelings about Gilbert into any opinion on the Cavs when he wrote basketball. He had somewhat kept the 2 separate (other than some digs) until the 2011 lockout. From then on, everything the Cavs did poorly was the fault of Gilbert and even some things done well were projected to end poorly because of him (the Baron Davis trade being one such point).
I did a couple quick searches and most what pops up are the “Cavs will never win a `ship with Gilbert as owner” articles, but…
WFNY hit on it at one point:

People are acting like he kissed her on the mouth. Good Lord, calm the hell down!
thanks!
Appears there is going to be some “off-camera” interaction between the player and the reporter later. Her comments verify she is amenable to taking a trip to the “dark side”.
