Matthew Dellavedova out versus Utah
November 5, 2014Two Good Plays from the Cavs Loss in Portland
November 5, 2014Ah, the NFL injury report. The game within the game.
Ahead of the Cleveland Browns’ big match-up with the Cincinnati Bengals Thursday night, it appears that the most notable Bengals player to be injured this year — all-world wide receiver A.J. Green and his turf toe — is no longer injured enough to be mentioned on the injury list.
Pro Football Talk makes a good point, however. It isn’t like A.J. Green’s absence from the report waves an M.I.B. memory-erasing wand in front of the Browns. They are well aware of A.J. Green’s injury history this season and well aware of the performance he put up against Jacksonville this past weekend.
Reminds me of a couple years ago though, when the Baltimore Ravens were fined for failing to include Ed Reed in an injury report. They were fined $20,000 and John Harbaugh followed that up with some quotes about how there is “no credence” to the injury report.
From back in November 2012…
By rule, a team has to list players who have significant injuries even if they take every practice snap. This is “especially true of key players and those players whose injuries have been covered extensively by the media,” according to the rules. Harbaugh took issue with that aspect as well.
“If that’s how they want to word it, I’m not going to go with the league saying that one player is more significant than another player,” Harbaugh said. “That’s absurd to me. They can get mad at me if they want for saying that, but they need to write that a little more clearly. We’ll just put every guy on there that has a hangnail and go from there.”
I guess it does all seem a little bit silly in this modern NFL media environment. We all seem to know everything and even when we’re told one thing by a team about player, say, passing their physical, that young running back might just tweet out the truth a few hours later. In that respect, all the reasoning that was behind putting the injury report rules in place seem to be somewhat antiquated now.
Then again, where would we be without all those extra “HOT FANTASY NEWS” alerts on Twitter?

Please. Who cares about AJ Green’s status? I’m more worried about Greg Little exacting his revenge.
Funny how quickly AJ healed up once he felt the blazing competitive fires of his back up’s back up.

It would be so amazing if Greg Little was inactive tomorrow night. Come on fate!
