Browns vs. Buccaneers: Tweets of the Game – First Half
November 2, 2014Browns find the end zone late, beat Bucs 22-17
November 2, 2014Brown head coach Mike Pettine was asked about the weird clock strategy to end the first half and they start the second half still talking about it. Pettine said he wanted to go for a field goal. He knew the Browns were getting the ball back to start the second half and wanted to grab the “momentum.” I still disagree with Pettine, but you know what’s cool about the NFL? If Pettine and the Browns find a way to overcome the dismal Buccaneers, it’s unlikely he’ll have to answer more than one or two questions about the clock.
If the Browns lose, however…
Oof. Don’t want to think about it. Here’s how the rest of the game went on Twitter.
Third Quarter
Brian Hoyer is starting to get a repoutation in certain Browns fan circles as a killer of wide receivers. Jordan Cameron took a shot when he was stretched out catching a Hoyer pass. Andrew Hawkins took a few hits including one that saw play stopped so he could get off the field to start the second half.
@WFNYCraig hoyer is getting his receivers destroyed….
— Michael (@crobarred) November 2, 2014
Andrew Hawkins did re-enter the game after a few plays. Brian Hoyer however was starting to take some shots even as he was able to get the ball out before being sacked.
Hoyer got up awfully slowly. Looks like William Gholston drilled him after the throw.

The Browns stalled and Billy Cundiff was about to do a Phil Dawson impression, but Spencer Lanning hard-counted the Buccaneers who gave up five yards on the penalty. It wasn’t enough for a first down, but Terrance West converted to make it first and goal inside the Bucs five.
The Browns FINALLY put in a TD on a wide open pass to Terrance West to the right side. Browns re-take the lead 16-10!

#Browns drive 80 yards in 11 plays (5:50) to take lead on West's 2 yard TD pass from Hoyer
— Fred Greetham (@FredGreetham) November 2, 2014
Pettine better win, or he’s going to get it… lol…
How long before we can start complaining that Pettine did not go for 2? #Browns
— Tom Moore (@Tom_RedRight88) November 2, 2014
The Buccaneers offense had a plan in the second half and it was to attack Buster Skrine with Vincent Jackson. Smart move for the Bucs.
#Browns switch Haden onto Jackson. Best move of day.
— Tom Withers (@twithersAP) November 2, 2014
Donte Whitner was absolutely on fire to start the second half. He was making lots of plays behind the line of scrimmage to help in the run game.
Donte Whitner has played one heck of a game.
— Brendan Leister (@BrendanLeister) November 2, 2014
Donte Whitner playing his best game as a Brown so far this season.

In Cleveland though, we can’t have nothing nice…

Even after an opening half touchdown drive, the Johnny Manziel talk started again with Fox TV coverage focused on his sweet winter cap. Plus, don’t know if you heard (or maybe you called him) but Johnny Manziel accidentally tweeted his phone number this weekend.
Johnny Manziel should tweet Mike Pettine his phone number.

Even fantasy football fans hate the Browns right now…

This is the portion of the game where the Browns are winning and you wouldn’t know it by being on Twitter.
#Browns are without three Pro Bowlers on offense, but you still gotta play … and win.
— PatMcManamon (@PatMcManamon) November 2, 2014
It's going to get interesting in Cleveland this week. The Manziel noise will be louder than ever if this keeps up.
— mike freeman (@mikefreemanNFL) November 2, 2014
That is until the Browns weren’t winning anymore. Mike Evans against Buster Skrine was in the Bucs favor and Mike Glennon found him for a long TD pass. Buccaneers go up 17-16.
Evans with his second touchdown of the game, this one against Skrine. Bucs regain lead 17-16.

The Browns fans at the stadium start to get restless after another bad “drive.”
The boos are getting noticeable for a certain QB here in Cleveland after that 3 & out. Not saying it's right at all, but it's happening
— Keith Britton (@KeithBritton86) November 2, 2014
The Browns end the third quarter with Tampa having the ball and the Browns trailing 17-16.
Fourth Quarter
We start with the realization that this is just a boring football game right now…

Meanwhile in Dallas…

And just as the boo birds are getting ridiculous for Hoyer and the Browns offense, they convert on third and 16 from the shadow of their own goal line. Miles Austin for 25 yards.
Is @FOXSports going to show Manziel after ever incompletion?
— Todd Kleckner (@ToddKleckner) November 2, 2014
The Browns were moving and then Brian Hoyer and Kyle Shanahan went to the same rollout play one too many times. Gary Barnidge got his hands on the Hoyer pass, but a big hit knocked the ball in the air and Tampa intercepts with a lead in the fourth quarter.

And that's what happens when you try to kill your receivers all game.
— Tony Mazur (@TonyMazur) November 2, 2014
Hoyer picked on pass to Barnidge, batted away by McDougald.
— Tom Withers (@twithersAP) November 2, 2014
How many times is hoyer gonna try to get his receivers killed. Awful throw again. Leads to INT
— Collaborative Filtering (@MiWiBi) November 2, 2014
Help us Mike Glennon. You're our only hope!!
— Aaron Goldhammer (@HammerNation19) November 2, 2014
The Browns defense – thankfully – is only matched up with Mike Glennon and a Buccaneers offense that has inexplicably stopped running. The Browns special teams blocked the punt attempt as well, putting the Browns offense in prime position with just under 10 minutes to go in the fourth quarter.
Brian Hoyer responds thanks to some excellent blocking by his offensive line and Terrance West. He finds Taylor Gabriel for a long TD strike! Browns re-take the lead via 34-yard blast to the Bucs. For Taylor Gabriel, it’s his first TD in the NFL.
https://twitter.com/FanSidedGIF/status/529009394671816704
OMG Terrance West just won himself more playing time with that block.
— TCB (@TenCentBeers) November 2, 2014
Hoyer to Gabriel w/ 34-yard TD. MASSIVE blitz pick up by Terrance West.
— Tom Reed (@treed1919) November 2, 2014
The Browns go for two and miss, but lead 22-17. Can the defense hold a slight lead? Browns defense holds and with under seven remaining the Browns offense gets the ball back and a chance to build that five point “advantage.”
TB forced to call timeout before delay penalty. Have 2 left #browns have all 3. third and 6 from own 33
— Fred Greetham (@FredGreetham) November 2, 2014
Offensive line can wipe out last 53 minutes on this drive #Browns
— Tom Moore (@Tom_RedRight88) November 2, 2014
Miles Austin catches a first down pass to help take the game clock under four minutes. Miles Austin isn’t a big producer for the Browns, but he’s been very important.
I like that Miles Austin is good for one nice catch a game and then he goes back into his cryogenic chamber
— Will Gibson (@wjcgibson) November 2, 2014
Browns facing one more third down, potentially…
Tampa Bay just used 2nd timeout with 2:47 left. 1st down all but finishes game for #Browns.
— Scott Petrak ct (@ScottPetrak) November 2, 2014
The Browns couldn’t convert and had to punt them the ball with 2:44 left and a five point Cleveland Browns lead. The Buccaneers received the punt at the 23 yard line and the Browns defense dug in.
Meanwhile, Mike Evans was still giving the Browns fits.
The Browns should start covering Mike Evans sometime soon.
— Scott @ WFNY (@WFNYScott) November 2, 2014
As a browns fan I hate all this Mike Evans,Again as a Browns fan but He Is Amazing WR
— Bernie Kosar (@BernieKosarQB) November 2, 2014
The Cleveland Browns defense held with 1:39 on 4th and 11 and Brian Hoyer comes back onto the field!
C’mon Browns, are you really going to lose to this guy? pic.twitter.com/Otj4d68zPT
— Craig Lyndall (@WFNYCraig) November 2, 2014
Never felt a stadium that loud in my life. Browns defensive players mobbing each other on the sideline #DawgPound pic.twitter.com/moHC4L9iCB
— Kevin Jones (@Mr_KevinJones) November 2, 2014
Brian Hoyer needs to kill four seconds and he rolls out and throws a bomb into the sidelines and the Browns go home victors! It (again) wasn’t pretty, but a five-point win is a win.

Can anyone tell me what Brian Hoyer’s record as a starter is?????? Thom Brennaman only said it 298 times and only 43 people on twitter have told me. I don’t know if those sources are reliable!!!!
Woo! I am famous! I stand by my comment. Hoyer’s passes are either high where the receiver is defenseless or they have to lay out and are defenseless. Don’t get me wrong. He’s made plays but you need to give a ton of credit to the WR’s.
