The Legendary “Holy War” of 1993: A WFNY Oral History
November 7, 2014The 1984 Browns: A Bridge Between Eras
November 7, 2014Sometimes, the world is a beautiful place in which everything comes together perfectly. Sometimes, one moment captures the quintessence of a larger event. Sometimes, one play is a microcosm of a whole football game. Sometimes, that game is a 24-3 Cleveland Browns victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. This was the case last night, and poor Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis ended up on the turf.
During a third quarter punt return, Bengals cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick and Browns cornerback Joe Haden were fighting for position along the Bengals sideline. Kirkpatrick’s momentum took him out of bounds, and he wound up trucking his boss.
Check it out:
To Kirkpatrick’s credit, he tried to slow down and hold Lewis up, but that only served to make the eventual tumble that much clumsier/funnier/better/worse, depending on your rooting interest.
Lewis’s hat and headset came off, and you could almost hear him saying, “I’m fine I’m fine I’m fine leave me alone” as an assistant went to help him up.
He might have preferred to stay down and hope for a 10-count.

How could this never have happened to Pat Shurmur?
Or why couldn’t it have happened here?

Ouch. I’ll bet it was twice as hard for ol’ Marv to roll out of the rack this morning. And will be for about a week.
