Trial and Error
November 5, 2014A.J. Green no longer on Bengals injury report
November 5, 2014Serving as a little insult to injury (or is it the other way around?), Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Matthew Dellavedova will not play Wednesday night in Utah after sustaining a knee injury in the team’s 19-point loss to Portland on Tuesday.
This is a pretty big blow for the Cavs who are coming off of a game where their backcourt produced little. Through Cleveland’s first three games, Dellavedova has averaged 2.7 points and 2.3 assists over 19.5 minutes. While he’s only averaged 3.3 field goal attempts per game, seven of the top eight five-man units deployed by the Wine and Gold thus far have featured the 24-year-old from St. Mary’s.
It is expected that Kyrie Irving and LeBron James continue to dominate the role of facilitator, but David Blatt could also leverage Dion Waiters (who thrived last season at the point) or the newly signed Will Cherry.
Update at 8:40pm Wednesday: The Akron Beacon Journal’s Jason Lloyd has added, via a team source, that Dellavedova could be out for up to a month. If that’s the case, this could be a very big blow for the Cavs. In addition, Shawn Marion replaced Dion Waiters in the starting lineup. That move could easily free up Waiters to grab the lead bench distributor role.
