Talking LeBron James and the Cavs’ rough start with Brendan Bowers – WFNY Podcast – 2014-11-06
November 6, 2014Browns dominate the Bengals 24-3!
November 6, 2014Do you ever really know a referendum until after it’s over? I was pretty adamant that I didn’t think the Browns’ loss to Jacksonville was a referendum on the team and what they are. Regardless, according to Ian Rapoport, one of his sources within the Browns’ organization thinks the Bengals game is just that.
Appearing on NFL Total Access Kickoff, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport said that Hoyer’s agent hasn’t spoken to the Browns about a new contract since the summer, but that is expected to change over the next three weeks.
One Browns source told Rapoport that Hoyer is facing a “referendum game” in Cincinnati.
If he wins and the Browns remain in the playoff hunt for a couple of weeks, the team’s brass will likely approach him about a new contract that will pay him commensurate with an NFL starter.
It all sounds rather silly to me. Brian Hoyer needs to play well, but he’s needed to do that all season long. He’s a journeyman, in the last year of his contract, with a first round pick sitting behind him, barely a year off of ACL surgery on his knee. The dude is a walking pile of referendum, and has been since the Browns left the competition somewhat open during training camp.
I’m sure there are some in the Browns organization that are itchy to see what Johnny Manziel can do. It could even be someone highly ranked in the coaching staff that wants to see what they can do with a shiny new car named Johnny Manziel. But to think that after leading the team to a 5-3 record that all of a sudden Brian Hoyer is on an extra special secret probation that turns the Bengals game into a referendum seems unlikely.
Well at least anymore than every game has been a referendum already.

Yeah, that’s why they RAN the ball every play to start the game.
Keep stirring that pot, media…smfh.
I wonder if his “source” on the staff wants to wreck this league…
“The dude is a walking pile of referendum”.
That’s award-winning quality.
I’m starting to think that the national media is just desperate to have stories about this team and have no true access, so they’re stirring the pot instead to see if they can get someone to become an inside source.
The only thing that hurts contract talks with Hoyer is performances like last night. I am obviously talking about Dalton. He was horrible and just signed a 115M contract for 6 years in the offseason.
