JR Smith wasting no time “fitting in” in Cleveland

January 20, 2015Much has been made of Ohio State’s quarterback situation this year due to injuries. The fallout from all that was rumor and innuendo that Braxton Miller would be transferring. That was further perturbed by a Twitter mishap by Miller that saw him seemingly picking Oregon instead of Ohio State by favoriting a Tweet instead of RT’ing it.1 Regardless of all that, it appears maybe Braxton Miller was telling the truth when he said he was going to be back at Ohio State. Tim May of the Columbus Dispatch has confirmed that Braxton Miller is enrolled at Ohio State for the Spring semester.

Or maybe he’s going to leave. I’m so confused by all these rules… from College Football Talk.
Miller graduated in December. Having already graduated, Miller will be eligible to play at any FBS program in the fall. NCAA transfer rules allow players that have graduated to play immediately without having to sit out a season. This is why Miller’s hypothetical college football free agency is as enticing as it is.
Regardless, I hope Braxton Miller finds success somewhere. Miller was a tough luck case getting hurt before this season started. Miller has been through a lot at Ohio State.
He started out as a backup to Joe Bauserman under the head coaching of Luke Fickell. He led Ohio State through their first season with Urban Meyer going 12-0 without bowl eligibility due to NCAA sanctions. He came close in 2013 going undefeated with the Buckeyes until the Big Ten championship where they lost to Michigan State. Miller and the Buckeyes followed that up with a loss to Clemson in the Orange Bowl 40-35. 2014 was Miller’s year and it never happened because of the shoulder injury.
Add in the fact that the Buckeyes miraculously won it all without him, and it’s hard not to feel a little bit sorry for the guy. But he’s enrolled at Ohio State, so maybe this one has a happy ending for Braxton Miller as a member of the Buckeyes. Regardless of that, I hope it has a happy ending for him.
- Yes, this was really something that we all talked about. [↩]

heard that miller’s shoulder injury may actually prohibit him from being solid passer anymore. not sure if there is truth there, but may be one of the reasons hang out in columbus another year as opposed to joining a new team. arm may not be 100% yet – may never be?
yeah, there are rumors his shoulder just isn’t healing properly and that has some bearing since it is a recurring injury. if true, then staying at Ohio State is likely his best option since Urban has demonstrated a willingness and ability to find ways to make odd-fitting but great athletes into good roles that entice the NFL.
