January 24, 2015Dismember the Titans: Cleveland State beats Detroit to win third straight
January 24, 2015With Opening Day less than 80 days away, the Cleveland Indians have outfitted fans with a wish list of sorts thanks to the release of their 2015 Promotional Schedule. This year will feature 18 different promotional items including five replica jerseys, four bobbleheads and a Larry Doby replica statue. In addition to celebrating the current roster, the team will also pay homage to the 1995 American League championship squad as a means to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
Highlights from the team’s press release include:
• Bobbleheads featuring Corey Kluber and his 2014 Cy Young award (June 6, courtesy of Sugardale), All-Star and MVP Finalist Michael Brantley (August 8) and Carlos Santana (July 8, courtesy of Discount Drug Mart); and a Yan Gomes jersey (August 29, courtesy of Sherwin-Williams). Fans will also receive a bobblehead of Manager Terry Francona, who will be featured on his trusty, famous scooter (September 12, courtesy of Meritech).
• On June 19 and 20, select members of that team will be at Progressive Field to join in celebrating their 100 wins, a 54-23 second-half record and an AL pennant. Fans at the ballpark will receive a 1995 AL Champions celebration T-shirt designed by GV Art+Design.
• The 1995 team also will be celebrated with an AL Champion commemorative pennant (May 9, courtesy of Northeast Ohio Media Group), a Mike Hargrove replica jersey (June 22, courtesy of KeyBank) and a Sandy Alomar replica jersey (July 11, courtesy of Medical Mutual).
• On July 25, the team will unveil a statue honoring Larry Doby, the first African-American to play in the AL. The statue will join the current Feller and Thome statues in the newly renovated Right Field District area, and fans will receive a Doby replica statue courtesy of KeyBank.
• The team is finally doing away with the “first 10,000 fans” nonsense. The Kluber Cy Young bobblehead will be distributed to 17,500 fans, while the Brantley bobblehead (15,000), Alomar replica jersey (15,000) and Doby statue (12,500) among others also will be distributed to more fans. The “promo pass” will remain for those looking to lock up items without having to wait in line for hours before the gates open. This will come in handy for the Carlos Santana bubblehead since the team is only giving away 10,000 units on what’s bound to be a packed July 4th weekend contest.
• The Indians will host 10 KeyBank Kids Fun Days and 11 fireworks nights including two Rock N’ Blast events (August 7 and August 8). There will also be two child-specific promotional items handed out during the season (Kids T-shirt, June 7, and cap, June 22), in addition to the ongoing offseason expansion of the popular Kids Clubhouse area to two stories.
So clear some space on the shelves and in those drawers, kids. I recommend getting rid of the pants. You’ll need new ones anyway after inhaling some Barrio and Melt.
