National Signing Day, Josh Gordon’s suspension, and nicknames: While We’re Waiting…
February 4, 2015Things that please me about the Cleveland Cavaliers right now

With just a few days before pitchers and catchers report to Goodyear, Arizona, two members of the Cleveland Indians find themselves in the news for some unfortunate reasons. According to a tweet from Paul Hoynes of the Northeast Ohio Media Group, pitcher Danny Salazar and catcher Roberto Perez are the subjects of sexual assault allegations.
Details are murky as some reports have Salazar being the individual in question while a previous report indicated that Indians catcher Roberto Perez was also being investigated, but no complaint has been filed against him. According to Jordan Bastian of MLB.com, the incident in question occurred on the early morning of January 23.
Danny Salazar is only Indians player being investigated on possible sexual assault complaint. No complaint filed against Roberto Perez.

Following up on @hoynsie's tweet: source says no charges have been filed; Perez isn't being investigated. Incident occurred early morn 1/23.

The team says that they are aware of the investigation. Naturally, as this is a legal matter, they will not provide any other comment at this time.\
Salazar, 25, started 20 games with the Indians last season, going 6-8 with a 4.29 ERA in 110 innings pitched. He is expected to compete for a rotation spot this spring after taking a sizable step back from his late-season heroics back in 2013. The equipment trucks head to Goodyear this Friday.

I’m not going to jump to any conclusions because we’ve seen how often these types of allegations turn out to be fraudulent, but if true this is really sad. For the most part, the players on the Tribe have been model citizens.
WHY CAN’T WE HAVE NICE THINGS!?!
I know you’re joking, and I admit that this is where my thoughts first go – but then I stop and think: Why can’t women be free from this crap? If he did it, I hope he gets punished harshly for it (Perez, too, if he did anything). For that matter, I hope every Indians, Browns, Cavs, Buckeyes player – and all other men – that might have done something like this get nailed for it, too.
[Looking for the stirrup so I can now step down from my high horse . . .]
I agree. If he did it, hopefully he gets what he deserves. To stir things up, I think there needs to be harsh penalties for obvious or admitted false claims. I read about a guy who spent 5 years in jail, 5 year probation, and the female recently admitted she made it up to get money. She should be thrown in jail twice as long and everything shoud be taken from her too. Something like this would be hard to figure out because you wouldn’t want women to be scared to report something, but I do believe it there are a lot of false claims (and probably a lot of non reported interactions).
if true…

For sure. All you have to do is think about the Duke lacrosse team. If Salazar is innocent (not just “not guilty”), I hope he is vindicated and any false accusations are treated harshly.
Because we live in a society where men can generally get away with pulling this kind of crap. For all the sexual assaults that actually occur, we get actual accusations on a drop in the bucket, and a drop in the bucket of those accusations turn into prosecutions. And even when we do get accusations, so many first thoughts are about what do we need to do about those ladies who lie.
Saw this link over at the PD’s page. Sort of disturbing that Salazar and Perez are both mentioned.

Go play for the Browns, Salazar. This sort of thing doesn’t fly with the Spiders.
Oh, and of last May, he was married with two kids.
Salazar was the one pitcher I would have been looking to trade for a right handed power hitter. So much for that. Good thing the Indians signed Floyd.
no, not Spiders. this sort of thing would absolutely fly with the joke of an organization that was the Cleveland Spiders.
Sources say no charges to be filed against Salazar.
So that means he clearly did not do anything wrong and we can like him again. Yah, sports!
I agree, spiders are disgusting and creepy.
I just wish there was any kind of detail around this story so I could draw a conclusion.
Know what you mean. I think this is where I generally come out on these things: Guys doing what they’re supposed to be doing (i.e., being decent human beings) don’t generally find themselves in situations where this stuff is even presented as a possibility (apart from the very rare, though possible, out-of-the-blue false accusation). Given some of the other things that have been revealed (see nj0’s link below), I tend to believe that there’s at least some smoke, if not a flame. As such, I’m not going to cheer for this guy and will look at him very differently, absent some other affirmative evidence.
