Jimmy Haslam says he felt sucker-punched by La Canfora report
February 13, 2015Where the Cavaliers Stand
February 13, 2015The Cleveland Browns have already said they won’t be as active in free agency this year as they were last year. That makes some sense because you can’t be as active as the Browns were a year ago every single season. What’s usually not included in that free agency equation is the re-signing of a team’s own players. One such player with his status very much in the air is Jordan Cameron. As was to be expected, Cameron will have other suitors.
Expect #Seahawks to target Jordan Cameron as FA. Remember, they tried acquiring Cameron for Harvin. Cameron played for Pete Carroll at USC.

I had completely forgotten that the Seahawks tried to acquire Jordan Cameron as part of the Percy Harvin deal.
Additionally, it was part of the La Canfora report that Jordan Cameron wanted out of Cleveland. Jimmy Haslam attacked that in his recent meeting with beat reporters as well.
Haslam also told beat writers he disputes reports that Jordan Cameron does not want to play here. #Browns

What really remains to be seen is if the Browns are even all that interested in bringing back Jordan Cameron. Cameron has had three concussions I believe. He’s been pretty productive and explosive in the passing game, but it always feels like that productivity comes with a cost to the run-blocking. What it always comes down to in the NFL is money and scheme. We don’t know if John DeFelippo will want to allocate the amount of resources it will take to keep Jordan Cameron in order to run whatever offense it is he plans on running.
He’s said he will make the best use of his resources, but we don’t know what resources he desires when given the choice. Jordan Cameron’s free agency will provide an interesting test case.

I like Jordan. Hope he does well at his next stop. I think we need a TE who can catch, block and be available.
Julius Thomas can be 2 of those things. I wonder how much he likes money (as Denver would like to keep him and GB apparently likes him, but I doubt either would offer him a top TE contract).
When the D can predict run/pass depending on if one player is on the field, it’s a liability. And I feel that is exactly what happens with him. He is a *horrendous* run blocker, so he is typically only in on passing plays (I don’t have the numbers to back that – just what I’ve observed). We don’t have the offensive weapons to outweigh that. Seattle does. JC in Seattle makes sense.
Interesting how swiftly the concussion issue has affected everything, from the enforced medical evaluations during games, to league protocol making players sit, to players’ increasing concern for their health rather than simply staggering back to the huddle. And now, of course, free agency. And soon drafting college players.
Just a few years ago Ben Watson was getting concussed a lot and no one really said anything and he was able to sign elsewhere. Today the market might not have been so great for him. Love the dimension Jordan brings to an offense but do question whether a big cap hit is worth it when our QBs are not very accurate and unable to minimize his exposure to more head shots.
“And soon drafting college players.”
I think this is already happening. One example that springs to mind is Shamarko Thomas, the safety from Syracuse the Steelers traded up w/ the Browns to select. One of his pundit-listed “weaknesses” was “multiple concussions”.
Really does beg the question of whether long-term health insurance should be a part of whatever future arrangements the NCAA develops for scholarship athletes, especially if future employment is compromised by injuries sustained in college athletics.
That’d be one more than we have now. #Process
i bet he likes money a lot. Cameron is free to leave, IMO. he was terrible this season. Also, he could retire at the drop of a hat if he sustains another concussion.
The fact that the Browns will just have to pay a tax to the Union if they leave cap space unused combined with a report that they won’t be active is baffling.
it will be soon. If there is one card that anyone can always play it’s the health card. And rightfully so. I can’t imagine the attorneys letting a deal get signed that doesn’t include some sort of health insurance.
And if so, would Pete Carroll then be suspended for “targeting”?

“…a report that they won’t be active is baffling.”
Baffling is definitely their goal at this point in the off season.
