WFNY’s 2015 NFL Draft Coverage: Joe Gilbert’s Top Five Safeties
March 2, 2015Thoughts on the signing of Josh McCown
March 2, 2015Remember that $270 LeBron James-based sneaker released by Nike roughly two years ago? It was the LeBron X Elite, and it flip-turned the sports and business community on their collective heads. Two years later, Nike is releasing yet another edition of James’ signature shoe with the “Elite” tag, producing their latest premium performance sneaker.
From Nike:
Nike Basketball is committed to making athletes better. Reducing weight, refining angles and maximizing cushioning are just a few adjustments that can directly impact footwear performance. The driving obsession to master design intricacies inspires the Nike Basketball Elite Series.
Direct insights from Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant and LeBron James have helped Nike fundamentally evolve basketball shoes, leading to new construction methods, state-of-the-art materials and technical innovations. The athletes spend countless hours with the Nike design team to brainstorm, test and modify their signature shoes, resulting in the best shoe possible for each elite athlete.
Merging advanced innovation with inspirational narratives, the KOBE X Elite, KD7 Elite and LEBRON 12 Elite incorporate upgrades intended to maximize each shoe’s performance.
The Elite 12 Elite, like it’s standard-series brethren, leverages high-quality Megafuse construction with mesh and composite for structure and features new vertical wings wrapping the foot for lockdown and stability and comes equipped with an icy transluscent sole with visibile Zoom Air cushioning.
A big change from recent years will be the three-part release with Nike staggering it’s “Team,” “Elevate,” and “Rose Gold” editions. The University Red, Black and Metallic Gold “Team” colorway will be released on April 18. The Photo Blue, Orange Blaze and Wolf Grey “Elevate” will release May 5. The Black and Bright Crimson “Rose Gold” colorway will finish up the release, hitting shelves June 5—Nike apparently thinks the Cavaliers stand a good chance at still being around at this point in the season.
All three shoes will come topped off with a James-branded Lion face lace lock. With the 2013 release tipping at $270 and some of last season’s Elite shoes hitting $295, we may very well be on the verge of seeing Nike’s first $300 sneaker. ESPN.com’s Darren Rovell says $275, but stay tuned for pricing on this one as Nike has yet to confirm.
