Perkins: There’s nothing you can do to guard LeBron
April 17, 2015Exam Prep: The Cavs 2014-15 Playoffs
April 17, 2015If you had faith in the Cleveland Cavaliers last June, you could be in for a nice pay day as the Wine and Gold open up as odds-on favorites to win the 2014-15 NBA Title. According to The Westgate SuperBook, the Cavaliers are 9-4 favorites following the completion of the regular season. The Golden State Warriors are a close second at 5-2 with the defending champion 6-seed San Antonio Spurs coming in at 4-1, the only other team with single-digit odds. According to ESPN.com, Ceasar’s Sportsbook in Las Vegas had moved the Cavaliers to even money to bring home the Larry O’Brien trophy.
Last June, Cleveland was listed at 60-1 odds to bring it all home. In July, as buzz surrounding the potential return of LeBron James started to swirl, odds started to get tighter with some books slicing payouts to 40-1 early on with others closing that margin to 10-1 before the announcement was made. Once James’ return became official, however, his Cavs were installed as 4-1 odds-on favorites to win the title, just ahead of the San Antonio Spurs (5-1) and Oklahoma City Thunder (6-1).
The Cavs started the 2014-15 NBA season with just 19 wins in their first 39 games. They finished the season with 53 wins, the Central Division crown, and the second seed in the Eastern Conference. Their journey begins on Sunday when they host the Boston Celtics at 3 p.m. ET on ABC.
