April 2, 2015Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Orchestra poke fun at Browns
April 2, 2015With less than a week remaining until the Cleveland Indians kick off their 182-game voyage for 2015, the team continues to make roster moves in hopes of soon finalizing the 25 men who will be dressed when they face the Houston Astros on April 6. In doing so, Tribe GM Chris Antonetti announced the following moves:
- Relief pitcher Austin Adams will officially make the 25-man roster
- First baseman Jesus Aguilar has been optioned to Triple-A Columbus
- Infielder Zach Walters will start the season on the disabled list
- Michael Martinez has been made aware that he will not make the club, but will remain in Major League camp
The team has had a flurry of moves over the last week, including the optioning of pitchers Danny Salazar, C.C. Lee and Josh Tomlin. Aguilar will join Tyler Holt in the field once he arrives to Columbus.
As it stands, 35 players remain on the team’s roster, including eight non-roster invites—Martinez, Bruce Chen, Shaun Marcum, Jerry Sands and Anthony Swarzak (who was told he will make the team) being the notables.

During Holy Week, even.
So, this is the place where I get to say I’m excited for Tito’s plan to give Raburn and Aviles 600 or so combined PAs again?
That is a lot especially when Raburn is half of the duo. Personally as I said before I’d prefer Lindor up which would make Aviles what he really is and that is a super sub off the bench. Murphy/Sands/Moss would be by RF possibilities.
If Lindor is up, Aviles shouldn’t even be on the roster.
And I’d go Moss/Holt in RF. Holt can also give Bourn some much needed days off in CF. I think he’s the ideal backup OF for this roster.
I honestly don’t expect that to happen at least with Raburn. Aviles does provide decent utility defense, so we’ll have to live with him for now (was hoping Zach Walters was going to replace him). Raburn should be replaced once he proves that, yes, he is still terrible. Tito wants to give him the benefit of the doubt for whatever reason. Add Murphy to your list (as it doesn’t look like Murphy of old is returning).
hope we get walters back soon, i enjoy having a new russell branyan-type to shout about (both positively and negatively).
would have loved to see aguilar make the team, but it wouldn’t have really made sense unless he could play every day.
To make matters worse, I heard Barabas was given his roster spot. Where’s the justice?
I’d go Holt in CF/LF as the main backup (like KC does). Then use Moss and whichever OF proves himself most worthy from AAA (Moncrief, Aguilar, Sands, etc.).
Don’t worry. Sunday’s coming!
I’m expecting Brantley to play 150 games again. He’s proven durable over the last three years now, and we want his bat in the lineup everyday. Sure, give Holt the other 12 games, but I think Holt is more valuable than that. I’d like to see him finish just about every game as a defensive replacement in RF.
182? Assuming playoffs?
sign.me.up.
We’ve got a decent prospect at nearly every position in AAA, something we’ve lacked the last few years. Gotta hope they get a shot over a struggling Raburn/Murphy/Aviles or even Bourn/Swisher/Moss.
Tito is loyal to his veterans to a fault. That’s fine if there’s no alternative, but that won’t fly this year.
The math works out if we win a wild card and play a full series in each playoff round. Can’t say I’d be disappointed.
Absolutely agree that Raburn, Murphy, and Aviles should be worried about their roster spot. But this is Francona we’re talking about.
I don’t think there is a point in the season where we need less pitching on the roster than the first month, and still, Francona needs 13 pitchers on the roster. That leaves a bench of Perez, who will only play as a backup C, Aviles, and Raburn. I’m not sure what else Francona could be planning to do than to run those latter two out way too often. Yes, Holt, Walters, Lindor, even Aguilar, could help this roster, but if Tito can’t get them on the roster now, when will he? Maybe Walters when he’s healthy, but I’m still skeptical of that.
