Nick Swisher ready to begin rehab assignment
April 22, 2015Pics: A closer look at Nike’s Infrared “Home” Kyrie 1
April 22, 2015Iman Shumpert has brought plenty to the table as a Cleveland Cavalier: athleticism, dogged defense, a nifty pull-up game, the occasional three-point shot. Before Tuesday’s Cavs-Celtics game tipped off, Fox Sports Ohio viewers got to see another side of Shump: his skills on the microphone.
Shumpert, you see, has long dabbled in hip-hop music, and he recorded a playoff themed tune called “The Offs”1 that debuted at the top of the FSO telecast last night. Every Cavalier is referenced, from leader LeBron James (“It’s so easy to get open when you run with the king”) to reserves Kendrick Perkins, Brendan Haywood, and Joe Harris (“Perk and Hay the OGs/Joe-Joe for the three”).
The lob connection between Kyrie Irving and the Cavs bigs got special mention (“Off the ball-screen for Uncle Drew/Watch your head for Mozzie/Double T with the alley-oop”), as did J.R. Smith (“Late shot clock/Hit Swish up for the 9-1-1”)
I don’t listen to hip-hop nearly as much as I used to, but it isn’t bad! Shoehorning sports references into every line can feel a little clumsy, but Shump did alright. Kudos to him for putting in the time to shout out all of his teammates.
Take a listen and see if you don’t get that much more hyped for the postseason.

Your move, Trevor Bauer.
This is the type of fun creative expression begotten by winning.
Does anyone recall the host of laughingly bad fan songs about the Indians in 1995 that they used to play on WKNR?
are you talking about VIEW? (jack mcdowell and some other baseball guys)
haha, no. Why do I recall McDowell’s band being called “Stickfigure?” (I was such an Indians fan back then).
The song that comes to mind is one w/ a samba-like beat and lyrics that went something like:
“Sandy. He is dandy. Sandyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. He is dandyyyyyyyyy.”
“Jose Mesa. Loves to clear the base-a”
etc.
It was absolutely ridiculous but borne of a fan base that hadn’t had a winner to rally around for decades.
yet none will ever beat: “Bernie, Bernie, Oh yeah, Superbowl”
looks like Stickfigure was a 2nd band he was in. for whatever reason, I remembered the other one.
Still waiting.
Bauer’s was MUCH better
Oof.
McDowell’s band was Stick Figure and some awful DJ at WMMS would play that dreck during the workday all the time.
