2015 Indians Season Roundtable Preview

April 6, 2015It isn’t the best sign for Cleveland State basketball that the most noteworthy story related to the program is one of a star player transferring away. So it goes.
The recruiting battle for redshirt senior-to-be Trey Lewis continues, and Ohio State and Xavier are among the schools said to have shown “heavy interest,” per ESPN’s Jeff Goodman.
Cleveland State transfer Trey Lewis has visited Louisville — and also heavy interest from UCONN, Ohio state, Xavier and Texas.

Lewis has only visited Louisville thus far, and he reportedly “loved” his visit with Rick Pitino and the Cardinals. Nothing has really changed beyond that, with the exception of the attention surrounding Lewis.
The good people of Louisville-area 93.9 The Ville had me on their station to talk about Lewis last week. The Georgetown-centric Casual Hoya blog wrote a detailed scouting report about him. Xavier blog Banners on the Parkway did the same while trying to figure out if Lewis would be a good fit with the Musketeers. Burnt Orange Nation, a Texas blog, is hopeful that new head coach Shaka Smart can help lure Lewis to Austin.
Plenty of fans want to know about their potential signee, and some light Googling tells the nature of the tale. More image results have popped up for Lewis searches since his intent to transfer was announced. Stories about him no longer just come from Cleveland, and many now come from more southern locales like Columbus, Cincinnati, Louisville, and Austin.
Again, it isn’t a ringing endorsement of Cleveland State basketball that the biggest story surrounding it is of a player transferring. Worse, the second biggest story may be that of former Viking Bryn Forbes making the Final Four with Michigan State.
Any press is good press, right?
UPDATE: Per 92.3 The Fan’s Anthony Lima, Lewis is heading to Columbus for a visit with Thad Matta and the Buckeyes.

“Worse, the second biggest story may be that of former Viking Bryn Forbes making the Final Four with Michigan State.” — Only worse in that it should have been a bigger story.
He didn’t play much of a role in the Spartans run though did he?
He played about 26 mins/game for the season, averaging 8.5 points. Scored 14 against Louisville in the Elite Eight. Not a huge star, but certainly a contributor.
