David Griffin robbed for NBA Executive of the Year

May 1, 2015The Cleveland Browns added a lot of weight on Day 1 of the 2015 NFL Draft, upgrading their trenches with their first round picks in defensive lineman Danny Shelton and offensive lineman Cameron Erving. As much fun as Thursday night may have been, the team still has eight more selections to go. So where will they go on Day 2with their two selections? There are still a lot of very good instant impact players on the board. It will be a very interesting second day with a lot of talent still on the board.
Here are eleven of the best players still available for the Browns on Day 2.
Gregory has boom-or-bust potential because of his off the field issues. He has the size and athleticism that teams covet so much in an outside linebacker. He has great bend and speed on the corner to quickly get around the edge to the quarterback. His hands are very good with the ability to separate from blockers. Gregory can play sideline to sideline because of his athleticism. His character could scare off the Browns, but he would give the team a very good pass rushing threat.
EDGE Preston Smith, Mississippi State
Smith is a strong power rusher who plays well against the run and in pass rushing situations. He has great size and length for an outside linebacker, allowing him to kick down to defensive end in certain situations. His length and strong hands allow him to keep blockers away from him, so he can locate the ball carrier and make a play on the ball. Smith is a not an athletic speed rusher, so he won’t really beat blockers with great quickness. He would give the Browns a strong edge setter with the ability to rush the passer with power.
EDGE Owamagbe Odighizuwa, UCLA
Odighizuwa is a physical freak with great athleticism and size. He plays with great power and leverage to set the edge and play well against the run. He has strong hands to control blockers and rip away from them when the ball carrier is near. Odighizuwa plays with great effort and has the ability to power rush. He does not have great pass rushing ability because of his lack of technique and skill. He can help the Browns run defense right away as an edge setter.
WR Jaelen Strong, Arizona State
Strong is one of the most physical receivers in the draft. He has the athleticism and concentration to go up and grab a ball at its highest point. His hands are very reliable, allowing him to catch passers under duress and through contact. Strong can break tackles with his strength and help out as a blocker in the run game. He does not have great speed, which hurts his ability to separate from corners. Strong could come in right away for the Browns and give them an immediate redzone threat.
WR Dorial Green-Beckham, Oklahoma
Green-Beckham has the potential to be one of the best receivers in the class. He has the rare combination of size, at 6-foot-5, and athleticism. He has the jump ball ability to be a redzone threat right away. His speed surprises many because of his long strides, allowing him to run past defenders and be a threat to make big plays. Green-Beckham’s biggest question marks are his character and his technique as a wide receiver. For the Browns, he could eventually develop into a number one receiver and remind fans of Josh Gordon on the field (and hopefully not off it).
Johnson is my third ranked running back with great versatility. He can obviously run the ball, but he can also catch the ball and return the ball on special teams. His ability to cut and quickly turn on the speed makes him extremely tough to tackle. He can make defenders miss with great agility and speed. Johnson is not a big back, so he does not run with much power. Johnson would complement the Browns running backs because of his great quickness and agility to make big plays.
Kendricks is my number one rated inside linebacker. He has the best coverage ability of all the linebackers with the talent to play one on one versus tight ends and slot receivers. He is a smart linebacker who has the instincts to read the play and quickly make a play on the ball. He is a good tackler, who can quickly close on a ball carrier. Kendricks is not the biggest linebacker, lacking great strength to play tough in the trenches. His ability to cover and use his athleticism would be very intriguing to the Browns to eventual replace Karlos Dansby.
Smith has the big play ability that not many other receivers possess. He has excellent speed along with great ball tracking ability to beat the coverage down field and catch long passes. He has good hands and the ability to catch the ball in traffic. Smith has speed and quickness to be a very dangerous player with the ball in his hand. He is not a physical receiver and with questions about his strength to play against physical corners. Smith would add a huge play threat to the Browns that is sorely missed on their offense.
Williams is my number one rated tight end in the draft. He has the size and athleticism to be a big mismatch in the NFL. He has the jump ball ability to go up and grab a ball at its highest peak, using his length and hands to snatch balls out of the air. He can make plays after the catch because of his athleticism to make defenders miss. He must work on his technique as a receiver and become a better blocker. Williams could give the Browns the tight end threat who can take the role of the departed Jordan Cameron.
DL Michael Bennett, Ohio State
Bennett is one of the best penetrators amongst the defensive linemen in the draft. He is very quick off the ball with the hands to control blockers, allowing him to get past them into the backfield. He has good technique along with long arms to keep blockers away from his body. His pass rushing ability is his best asset, pressuring the quarterback with his quickness. Bennett is a smaller lineman with the inability to be a really stout player at the point of attack. He would give the Browns a pass rushing defensive lineman to play on passing downs for the defense.
Collins is my number one safety in the 2015 NFL Draft. He is a tough, smart safety with the instincts to read plays and quickly close on the ball. He plays very well against the run with the ability to play in the box and make tackles. Collins has the toughness and physicality to set a good tone for a team’s defense. His coverage ability is not his strength, but he uses intelligence along with solid athleticism to read the quarterback and make plays on passes. Collins could be the eventual replacement for Donte Whitner, but could play right away in certain situations where a third safety is needed.

Any chance Lockett makes it round 4?
not if I was making the choice at our 3rd round pick
I was getting greedy. 😀
Williams all day long.
If we are really going to “ground and pound” with this group of QB’s they need a giant man with great hands who can go up and get the ball.
Kendricks man here defense needs another athlete regardless of who though.
Seriously, I have to know: Is “length” a new advanced draft metric, or does it just mean “height”?
Jaelen Strong sounds like exactly what the Browns need.
I think the risk of Green-Beckham would be worth it. If we already have a babysitting service to deal with Gordon, they can just do overtime and watch this guy as well.
Pffft get Gregory too then!
Not in round two I still am partial to Devin Smith as well.
Character counts. Boy Scouts only need apply. We’ve had our share of trouble-makers, and it hasn’t worked out well.
Height + wingspan + leaping ability = length. I think. Either that or . . . nah.
The same babysitting service that allowed him to get on a plane and drink with teammates? Worst babysitters ever.
Nah.
Not in round 2? Where do you project Strong to go if not in round 2? I think most analysts have him going early to mid round 2.
You mean I’m finally number 2!?!?!?
Boy when you watch your nephew for a weekend and drop him off with two tattoos, syphilis, and a Pam Anderson paternity claim, they tell you you’ll never live it down. But here I am, already sliding down the pole. Whoo Hoo!
Careful, he has a NE SB logo. He prob wants NE to draft him.
Advertise-speak has come to NFL scouting. Reminds me of an Eddie Bauer color palette.

Is that a combination or Locker and Mallett?!? Because we should TOTALLY draft that guy!!!
Then you’ll like this round 2 mock: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/nfl-draft-scout/25169755/nfl-draft-titans-address-wr-in-second-round-mock-draft
We could extract the DNA of the most over hyped, never-were QBs in NFL history and create THE ULTIMATE BROWNS QUARTERBACK (ala Serpentor in GI Joe).

To be fair the babysitter was preoccupied with also being a coach.
Or go Dr. Frankenstein’s monster with our old QB’s….Manziel’s “it” factor, Hoyer’s “pedigree”, Brady’s dreaminess, DA’s arm, Frye’s “local ties”, Couch’s read ability..
Ya gotta love the smokey blue that some of these guys might bring to your team.
She’s gorgeous.
I’m an oak man myself. You like oak Gary?
Pulp Fiction? Nice.
Other needs IMO.
Worked with Brown at #32!!!
Serpentor nice! Yo Joe!
I like this plan. Can we name him Jakili-Joey Russeltebowspurrierschulerharringtonmirerleaf-marinovich?
combo Locker + Mallett = Mocker ~= Mel Kiper = Illuminati is real!
Elvis Jagger Abdul-Jabbar
When you say, “she’s gorgeous,” are you referring to the mock draft or Brady Quinn?
A solid question.
Duke and Bennett were the last 2 on the board, right? Then they took Duke.
