Fare thee well, Don Draper: While We’re Waiting…
May 18, 2015C-Cap Recap: Hip to Be Kip(nis)
May 18, 2015While it is one man’s “Hot List” that is the deciding factor, early returns on the Cleveland Browns’ 2015 NFL Draft have been positive. The latest comes from NFL.com which gives the oranger orange and brown the second best draft class of all 32 NFL teams.
2. Cleveland Browns: 248 points (5 players)
Overview: The Browns had two first-round picks and used them to select two of [Gil] Brandt’s top 26 players. Each of Cleveland’s first five picks were Hot 100 players and the Browns got them in the first three rounds, though they didn’t select them in Brandt’s order. The Browns got DE Nate Orchard in the second round and RB Duke Johnson in the third round; Johnson was ahead of Orchard on Brandt’s list.
The players (points)
No. 13 NT Danny Shelton, Washington (88)
No. 26 C Cameron Erving, Florida State (75)
No. 61 RB Duke Johnson, Miami (40)
No. 65 DE Nate Orchard, Utah (36)
No. 92 DT Xavier Cooper, Washington State (9)
This isn’t the first time the Browns have been praised for adding quality at key positions beyond the second round. Recall Mike Mayock’s top 100 list which featured seven players drafted by the Browns—national pundits continue to love Duke Johnson as well as Xavier Cooper—with Cleveland being the only team to roster that many highly-ranked players. The thoughts of yelling “Duuuuuuke” with each first down should be enough to warrant excitement.
Basic math states that each team should have roughly three top-100 players, not accounting for swapped draft selections and such. For the Browns to amass five-to-seven top players (depending on who you trust), well that’s a haul that few can complain about, even if many of the top guys are going to be in the trenches—instead of catching passes—throughout their NFL career.

I really really really hope all of the “experts” are correct!
I”m fine not drafting a stud WR. Who was the stud WR in the last super bowl? Or who were the stud WRs playing in the last 5 or 10 super bowls for that matter?
Here’s what we know: None have yet had a publicized arrested or ugly public incident. They all showed up to minicamp. Ok, the receiver showed up with his hand in a surgical cast, and his agent apparently had him hide the injury during his pro day, but that shows he’s a tough guy, right? None of the still unsigned are expected to demand money befitting a guy picked in a higher round. So far, so good.
Beyond that, we know absolutely nothing as to whether they can play and, therefore how the draft went for the Browns . And neither does Bleacher Report, Mayock or Gil Brandt.
Yep.
No news is good news.
I’m looking at you JFF.
EXPERTS!

WHY CAN’T WE EVER BE #1 IN ANYHING?
“Teams that are never #1 in anything”
#1: Cleveland Browns
!!!
they have a little white guy that played QB at Kent State, and a stud TE who’s email address in high school was chicmagnet4eva@yahoo.com
I dont know what anything anyone did in HS has to do with what they will do on the field in the NFL.. I had a ton of crazy things I did back then, and we didnt have email in 1990…lol
because teams that are number one in the draft usually suck… we are number two, so whats that tell ya?
Time to flush?
1. My entire point is that WR is not as relevant as people make it out to be. WRs get the glory and the highlight film reels, but that doesn’t mean they are the lynchpin that wins the championships. So again, of the last 10 or 20 super bowl squads (e.g. 5 or 10 super bowls), list the stud WRs.
2. What is the relevance of the the guy’s email in HS?
