May 28, 2015Defensive Cavs, San Andreas, and Grouplove… While We’re Waiting
May 29, 2015Before their four-game road series against the Mariners begins Thursday night, the Indians announced that they have placed first baseman Carlos Santana on the paternity list (with the birth of his first child) and Scott Atchison on the disabled list (left ankle sprain). To fill these two roster spots, the Indians announced that they have called-up reliever Austin Adams and outfielder Jerry Sands from Triple-A Columbus.
Earlier Thursday, Santana tweeted that his first child (a baby girl) was born, and that he was having a blessed and happy day today.

With the loss of Santana to the paternity list, Terry Francona and the rest of the coaching staff will have to find a new No. 2 batter in the order. Santana has been a mainstay at the second spot as of late, batting behind one of the hottest hitters in baseball, leadoff hitter Jason Kipnis. Santana is hitting .221 with six homeruns, 37 walks and 27 RBIs. Following one of the best seasons of his career in 2014, Atchison has struggled so far in 2015. In just over 19 appearances, the 39-year-old has a 1-1 record with a 5.74 ERA.
Jerry Sands will come back to the Indians clubhouse after playing in nine games with the team earlier in the season. In 23 at-bats, he has hit well with Cleveland, batting .348 with eight hits, two walks and four RBIs. Austin Adams has also played briefly with the Indians this season. In 5 2/3 innings with the Tribe, he has a 1.59 ERA with one strikeout, three walks and a WHIP of 0.88.
