Video: Three reasons to still have hope in the Cleveland Cavaliers
June 12, 2015Top Indians prospect Francisco Lindor to be promoted on Sunday
June 13, 2015Cleveland Browns Pro Bowl safety Tashaun Gipson has made it known that he wants to rejoin the Browns. Although Gipson had been looking for a long-term deal, on Friday afternoon he signed the Browns’ tender offer , which is worth $2.356 million for one year.
In a contract standoff with the Browns, Gipson missed voluntary organized team activities. He was not happy that the organization only offered him a second-round tender and not a first-round tender, which would have given him $3.347 million in 2015. While aggravated over his contract negotiations, Gipson worked out at his home in Dallas, Texas.
If he did not sign the tender before Monday, the Browns would’ve had the right (per the CBA), to replace the tender with a one-year contract with just 110 percent of his 2014 base salary, which could have been as low as $627,000.
During the best season of his career, Gipson played (and started) just 11 games due to a torn MCL, with PCL damage, suffered against the Atlanta Falcons on November 23. Before his season-ending injury, Gipson led the NFL with six interceptions. His 11 interceptions since 2013 led the NFL as well, including nine interceptions in his last 13 games.
The ballhawking safety may have wanted a long-term deal – and it may still happen – but for now he’ll presumably be at mandatory camp. One way or another it seems as though both the Browns and Gipson agreed to disagree – at least for now – and the Pro Bowler will be back in the Browns defensive backfield in 2015.
Earlier this off-season Gipson was voted into the NFL Network’s Top 100 players in the NFL at Number 67.

As expected, but still nice to see. Could earn himself some serious money this season.
He gone!
He’s going to play like Kenny Easley and quadruple his price.
Hopefully we can keep him.
Had a decent rookie year followed by a really good half a year. Certainly no need to be so insulted by a second round tender and get the panties all in a bunch. Sounds like he too is getting carried away with the hype. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail and they can come to terms on a long term deal.
I love it when we play chicken with our upcoming free agents and roll into the season with $20M+ in unspent cap money. Guess we’ll be drafting his replacement this year ala Alex Mack.
I think we are drafting a QB next year. McCown gets you the #2 pick in the draft, that was worth the $6M to the Browns.
Uh… I know it is Monday morning but I am failing to make the connection, what does this have to do with our free safety?
Loved Easley. That was a fun Seahawks team in general.
He should be in the HOF.
