Carlos Carrasco was one strike away from no-hitting the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday night. Alas, facing an 0-2 count with two away in the bottom of the ninth, Tampa leftfielder Joey Butler broke it up with a looping line drive just over the head of Tribe second baseman Jason Kipnis.
Indians manager Terry Francona pulled Carrasco in favor of Austin Adams, and Adams induced a Jake Elmore flyout to end the game and secure an 8-1 Indians win.
Carrasco’s teammates rewarded him by interrupting his postgame interview with an ice-cold Gatorade bath. (At first I thought it was just ice water, but on repeat viewings, it appears to have a light blue hue. Glacier Freeze, perhaps?)
Cookie was thisclose to Indians history. On the bright side, the Tribe came away with their third win in a row. Carrasco was all smiles after the game, and even in the moments immediately following the lone Tampa hit.
